2021 Makeup Trends and Hairstyles To Try For Valentine’s Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Temple chapter.

Trying new trends with makeup and hair should not matter whether you are spending Valentine’s Day with friends, a significant other, or even alone. These trends of 2021 could help you feel your best on the day and even may catch some eyes. The makeup looks and hair styles are perfect for any type of setting. From going out to dinner to meeting up on zoom, all these looks are very versatile.

These makeup trends are not all new, but they are definitely very relevant in 2021. I picked these types of makeup looks, because they are my personal favorites, and I will definitely be sporting on them on February 14th:

The Natural Look:

This trend is exactly what it sounds like-very natural coverage and dewy skin. 2021 has been an aspiring year for people to love the body they are in, including acne and imperfections, so this look is very popular for people who don’t want to “hide” their skin. To achieve this look is rather simple: light feathered eyebrows, a little bit of mascara, BB cream, blush, and lots of highlighter. This look enhances everyone’s natural glow and encourages people to feel comfortable in their own skin. A little tip is to add a liquid highlight or serum to the face BEFORE the BB cream so you can glow even brighter.

The Instagram Look:

If you follow many makeup pages or makeup artists, you may be seeing a plethora of heart cut creases and red eyeshadow looks, so what is stopping you from recreating those? While the artistry that goes behind those eyeshadow looks may seem intimidating, they are very simple given some time. My favorite Instagram looks this year for Valentine’s Day have been the cut creases with hearts, the graphic heart designs, and the blushes that leave behind hearts. For beginners, I recommend getting templates of hearts. If you lay the template down on your face and then put the blush or eyeshadow over top, you’re left with a really cool look once you peel it away! While some of these looks may seem outlandish, they can be a cool way to celebrate the holiday in a fun and vibrant way!

The Classic Look:

While this trend is not new to 2021, we can never forget it on Valentine’s Day. This look consists of two main trends: a bold red lip and a black winged liner. Think Marylin Monroe when trying this trend. This classic look is perfect for a date and is really a beautiful and subtle way to show off one’s beauty and elegance. Out of all the trends, this one would be the easiest, considering it only consists of putting on lipstick and some eyeliner. While winged eyeliner may be intimidating or hard given different eye shapes, a simple black line for eyeliner can do too! This trend is really my favorite, because it looks amazing on everyone and will definitely be a look I go for this Valentine’s Day.

Now, let’s talk hair for the upcoming holiday! While everyone may not be able to do all of these hairstyles, hopefully they will inspire you to try something new or even look into more trends that will work best with different hair types and lengths.

Bubble Hair:

I was so happy when I first saw this hairstyle, and it has become a personal favorite of mine. This hair trend is super cute, quick, and simple. This hairstyle is mostly done on longer hair lengths, but it can be adapted for shorter ones. How to do the trend is simple: take a section of hair and tie it with a small elastic band, take the hair thats tied and move about an inch down and tie another elastic band around the area, repeat until you reach the end of the hair, and then take each section you have created and pull hair out until you achieve a ball or “bubble” type affect. My favorite way to wear this style is by creating two bubble pieces on either side of my part and let my hair frame my face. This look can be really cute for any type of setting, and it’ll definitely be a stare-worthy style.

Tik Tok Curly/Crimped Hair:

This trend I had come across rather recently, and I have to say it’s really unique and fun! The point of this hairstyle is to have a very tousled and “bed-head” type look. This hair trend can look good on most hair lengths and types. To achieve this hairstyle, all you need is a 3-barrel curling iron and a regular curling iron/wand. This look is very simple-all you do is alternate between using the 3-barrel curling iron and then regular curling iron. This seems like it would look odd, but it gives you hair a very soft wave look and perfect for any occasion.

Sleek Hair:

The final and one of the most classic hairstyles for Valentine’s Day is the sleek straightened hair look. This is a gorgeous and glamorous hairstyle that can really enhance any look. All that is required to recreate this is a flat iron. In 2021, middle parts are all the rage, and this would really take this look to a very editorial level. While doing this look, you can add oils to give your hair some shine and also add hairspray to keep down any hair wispies. This hairstyle is really perfect for any setting but would look especially amazing during a dinner night out.

If you search the internet for “Valentine’s Day inspired looks for 2021”, you will come across hundreds of different trends and styles. Some of the trends I listed may not work or be for you, but there will always be something out there that catches your eye. Hopefully you can try out some of these looks for Valentine’s Day and discover something you may not have tried before that you really like. But at the end of the day, you’ll look fabulous whether you get all dolled up or not. Hopefully you can celebrate the day safely and with those you love and love you back!
