In 2020, we’re all adjusting to making things work, even if it’s not how we originally planned. High-end designers were no exception to the post-pandemic lifestyle when it came to NYFW. This year, designers had to utilize their creative juices to put on the safest and most entertaining shows possible. While some fashion-gods chose to broadcast on virtual streaming platforms, others put on socially distanced events around the New York City area.

Alice + Olivia lit up NYC’s streets with dancers and musicians wearing vibrant designs and masks (of course). Their Spring/Summer 2021 collection was full of intricate and bright yellow, pink, green, red, and white fabrics that drew lots of attention. The passionate dancers and musicians showcased the clothes’ beauty and how well they moved. Another show that had many fashionistas talking was Christian Siriano’s backyard fashion show bash. Siriano, the designer, transformed his Connecticut backyard into a beautiful runaway. All guests were required to wear a mask and sit 6-feet-apart, as well as the models who had masks on during the show. His Spring/Summer 2021 collection included many suit sets, bold colors, and patterns. Model Coco Rocha ended the show in a fabulous head-to-toe red ensemble, and finished with a splash by walking straight into Christian’s pool. Oh, did I mention that Rocha is also 7-months pregnant? Both shows are certainly worth giving a quick search on the internet. TikTok influencers have also given the best inside scoop on all things NYFW 2020. 2020 designers will go down in history for their flexibility and innovative efforts. No pieces, show themes, or performances were lacking this season. It’s quite evident that everyone involved in fashion week had to work harder to make their pieces pop. Everyone from models, MUAs, hairstyles, and designers had to amplify their work to show their pieces in the best light via Zoom. Overall, I’d say this year’s fashion week as a success! The fashion community truly embodied the age-old saying: “When life gives you lemons, you make lemonade.”
