YouTube Channels That Help Me Get Into The Academic Mindset

Summer break is over, and with the unbearable Texas heat, getting back into the rhythm of school feels slightly unattainable. Though the fall semester is always much easier to feel excited for, with football, impending holidays, and changing seasons, getting started is always a hump, especially with the busier schedule I have going into my junior year.

So, to help with the ache of getting back into a routine, I have compiled a list of YouTubers that make shifting back into the intense study mindset easier. In addition to making the shift back to an academic mindset easier, many of these YouTubers provide a broad range of content, from study content to baking, comedic/motivational talks, fashion, and life vlogs that all provide comfort as well as share relatability with their audience.

Yoora Jung

Yoora Jung is someone I have watched since I was in middle school. One of the first videos I watched was when I would attempt to work out at home because I was too young to buy a membership, let alone go to the gym by myself. With the combination of my interest in K-pop and workout routines, a video titled “I followed Jungkook’s workout routine for a week” immediately caught my interest, and though I struggled, I attempted to follow along with his fast-paced exercises.

Eventually, I began to see more of her videos on my feed and became intrigued by how a lot of her content focused on her college journey. I admired her intense focus when it came to studying, something that was pretty foreign to me, while still being able to take care of her health (eating, working out, self-care, etc). Though I was only in middle school when I first found her channel, her determination motivated me to do well in school and made higher education feel a little less intimidating than my teachers made it seem.

Yoora Jung’s channel consists of lifestyle vlogs focusing on her daily routines and her day-to-day life as a medical student. Additionally, she also makes study vlogs, in which she shares study tips that I myself have used and, if not motivating, relatable thoughts about school and the frustration it can sometimes bring. On top of videos that focus on school, she also makes content where she shares her travels and calmer, quieter days. Alongside her main channel, she also has a second channel, Study With Yoora, where she uploads real-time study videos that one can follow along with while they themselves study. As someone who needs some sort of noise when studying, these types of videos help and feel like you’re studying with a study buddy, which can be helpful when pulling all-nighters alone.

Whether you’re someone studying medicine or someone who enjoys aesthetic vlogs, I would recommend checking out her channel!

Kay B Chung

Kay Chung is a content creator who became known for her intense study method, which involved cramming a large amount of class material, then being able to recall all that same information. This is often paired with all-nighters or all-day studying right before the exam. Alongside her studying and all-nighter content, she would also share her journey through dental school, showing the realities of it, discussing her experiences in class/labs and her mental health.

I first came across her content on my TikTok For You page, and I would continue to watch, as I found her videos comedic. Her use of the clown remix with time-lapsed videos of her studying, oddly enough, helped me romanticize school and made studying easier during my first year. Though I can only say I tried her study method once, like her, I would NOT recommend trying it out. Everyone works differently, and, luckily, the material I had to learn was nothing too complex. However, if you are in a course that requires a lot of time and concentration, I would not recommend doing this. It is known that the best thing to do after learning something is to accompany it with sleep, as it helps with memory retention, while all-nighters only help with short-term memory.

Since then, Kay Chung has recently graduated from dental school and has started a residency program where she continues to share her journey through academia, fitness, and lifestyle on both YouTube and TikTok, all while also giving her viewers meaningful tips and motivation on higher education. Kay is another YouTuber who, like Yoora Jung, helps with making school not feel as dreadful as it can often feel when entering a new academic year. If you enjoy lighthearted but also motivational content for those challenging times, I highly recommend checking out her channel! Her videos have definitely helped with getting through exams!

Mandy’s iPhone

Mandy’s iPhone is another one of my favorite YouTubers who, rather than watching a video, feels like you’re on a FaceTime call with her. Her videos give off a calm and cozy vibe; in them, she decorates for the holidays and takes her viewers along to try new hobbies. She also has plenty of comical videos that feature her friends Claire and Hamzah as well as her now-fiancé, Martin, where they come together for challenges, gaming videos, or to follow along with Mandy’s routines! Alongside her engaging content, she shares insightful and often relatable perspectives on topics such as school, beauty standards, mental health, and more.

Though I don’t watch many channels outside of the few I mention in this article, there has been a noticeable trend among YouTubers switching from a highly manufactured style to a simpler video style, which allows more personality-driven content. This isn’t to say that channels that haven’t adopted this style aren’t entertaining; however, it’s refreshing to see more realistic and relatable content, at least to me. I believe that Mandy and the other channels I mention showcase a sense of fun and authenticity in their videos.

With the cute concept of Mandy’s channel name, her video titles acting as files (.mov), and her viewers being known as “iPods,” her channel is one I think everyone should check out!

Out of Character Podcast

The Out of Character podcast is a comedy podcast hosted by Hamzah and Martin, who also have a channel called Slushy Noobz filled with a variety of content. Mandy’s channel was what actually introduced me to the podcast and has become part of my morning routine.

As someone who absolutely hates waking up early in the morning, so much so that music doesn’t help with my mood, Out of Character helps with the initial lethargy. The podcast consists of Hamzah and Martin having some of the most unserious and hilarious conversations that quickly change my mood to a more hopeful one. Sometimes, music is not enough of a mood maker, and watching a TV show while getting ready may be too distracting; therefore, a podcast like this is one to give a listen to!

Podcasts had never been my thing until last year, so it is understandable if you don’t want to give it a try; however, for those who do, episode 55, “Couple’s Therapy,” is one of my favorites, which features Mandy.

Jellybean Celine

Jellybean Celine is for the girls who enjoy crafts, cooking, baking, reading, and, honestly, all things cozy! Celine, like Kay Chung, is someone I first found on my TikTok For You page during the COVID-19 lockdown. After the lockdown, I had stopped seeing her TikToks, but I found her channel in my feed last summer and have since tuned in every so often to her videos.

Her channel features “What I eat in a week” vlogs, living alone video diaries, and travel vlogs. Much like Mandy’s channel, she showcases a calm video style that also showcases her personality as well as her many hobbies, which include many crafts! Despite not being a crafty person, as someone with very little creative vision, it is intriguing to watch her handmade clay displays, self-made stickers, and various other projects she’s accomplished; I think it’s truly a gift to be able to have such creativity. I also love her fashion sense!

If you want fashion inspo or ideas for your next crafting project, Celine’s channel is definitely one to look into!
