Alright ladies, if you’re anything like me, and struggle to keep up with conversations about what is going on all over the world, or maybe have the fear of sounding stupid when people bring up political talk, it is time for a reality check. It’s hard to step outside our bubble where our biggest concerns are finals week, making it to the Christmas tree lighting before the fireworks and connecting to StuWireless.

When you think about it, how much time do you really take to learn about what the rest of the world stresses about? Do you put in more effort than reading a short blurb that pops up on the sidebar of your Quizlet flashcards?

Let’s face it, keeping up the world beyond our own is hard. That being said, that does not serve as an excuse to not try. It’s actually attractive to be knowledgeable about what is going on.

Below are a list of extremely easy ways to get your daily dose of news before your morning coffee.

1.     Utilize the iPhone (iOS 9.1) “News” app.

After you’ve exhausted Instagram and Snapchat while walking from class to class, how about use this News app as your next go to. This app can be personalized to your own interest. It has all of the essential topics like celebrities, food, glamour, buzzfeed… CNN, The New York Times, etc.

2.     Watch the stories on Snapchat Discover.

Snapchat’s “Discover” update is quite possibly the easiest and the most entertaining way to learn about the world. I mean, you already spent hours stalking your ex-boyfriends stories anyways. Aside from CNN and Daily News, snapchat offers ESPN and Cosmopolitan for those sports and celebrity gossip enthusiasts.

3.     Subscribe to The Skimm.

This one is my personal favorite. Subscribe to theSkimm (IT’S FO FREE), and you will receive a daily email newsletter that QUICKLY tells you the important things you need to know before starting your day. It will send you this every morning, so you can knock out your daily news dose in two minutes on your phone before getting out of bed. Easy as that! Also, theSkimm uses humor making it the most appealing way I’ve found to read the news.

4.     Read one of the above or watch the news while on treadmill.

Everyone is guilty of procrastination. Instead of aimlessly scrolling through your ex’s new girlfriend’s Instagram, Yahoo provides short and simple articles ranging from puppies to ISIS – so there really is no room to complain.

Hi, I'm Brittany! I am a Sophomore Strategic Communications major at TCU. I'm from San Antonio, Texas. I am apart of Greek life and love being involved on campus! I decided to join the HC team because I'm interested in writing and feel like this website is a great way to reach out to the TCU community.
My name is Kristina Genau and I am a sophomore at TCU. I decided to become part of the HerCampus staff because writing has always been a huge passion of mine and I wanted to continue building on my skill. Having the opportunity to write for Her Campus allows me to display my passion in more creative ways outside of boring research papers. I have a huge imagination which I think only strengthens my love for writing.
