Katie’s Guide to Rom-Coms

Ask any of my friends, watching rom-coms has become a personality trait of mine. It might slightly be from the fact that I will not watch a movie that does not have a romance plot or side plot. What can I say? I like what I like.

If I can remember right, the first taste of romantic comedy I experienced was High School Musical. While on its surface the movie is a cheesy musical number, I found the romance and comedy elements strong enough to deem it a rom-com. The story of Troy and Gabriella taught me to look for the love that is good and kind, gentle and passionate. Watching rom-coms on the surface might come off as quirky, but to me, it is an escape from reality. It brings me smiles on my rough days and even more smiles on happy days.

In my unbiased opinion, there is never a valid argument against watching a rom-com. Unlike a scary movie, you can watch it at night. Unlike an action movie, you do not have to deal with loud fight scenes that stress you out. Rom-coms are like your favorite blanket on a chilly day. They warm your soul and bring positive emotions into your life.

Rom-coms are the best movies ever created. (I do not make the rules.) In case there are any novice rom-com watchers reading this article, I created the best rom-com guide known to man. The best part is, this genre is so varied and flexible. So many movies can cure a rom-com craving. This guide is like unlocking another universe (a better universe) that is full of sunshine, rainbows, and all good things.
