If you’re new to TCU or an incoming freshman (hello TCU Class of 2026!), you probably have loads of questions about Fort Worth, your new college town. What are the best places to shop in Fort Worth? What are the best places to eat? What I am supposed to do on a Friday night when I have nothing else to do? Fort Worth is an incredible city and there are so many opportunities to explore and discover exactly what you like!

1. The Stockyards. This is a must while you are in Fort Worth. There’s so much to do while you are in the Stockyards- going to a classic steak house, catching an incredible rodeo, going line dancing at Billy Bob’s, visiting the historic museums, and shopping for cute cowboy apparel at all of the cute shops!

2. The Zoo. While you are in Fort Worth, the zoo is such a great stop! It’s super close to campus and is a great way to spend the day when you have some free time but are not wanting to make that long drive to Dallas. The zoo is huge and there are so many different animals to see!! (My personal favorite is the elephants!!) Overall, the Fort Worth Zoo is super fun and a great way to spend the day when you have a free Saturday and aren’t wanting to travel far.

3. Fort Worth Water Gardens. Located right at the heart of downtown Fort Worth, the water gardens are a must while you are at TCU! Besides being incredibly beautiful and very large, it’s a great way to spend the day enjoying the gorgeous weather, pretty scenery, and great photo-taking opportunities! It’s a great way to explore Fort Worth and is located right by downtown so you can catch a yummy dinner after!

4. Fort Worth Botanic Garden. Located literally across the street from the Fort Worth Zoo, the Botanic Garden is lovely, filled with vibrant flowers and plants, and are also fantastic picture-taking opportunities! The Botanic Gardens are a must while you are in Fort Worth.

5. Downtown Fort Worth. As a whole, downtown Fort Worth is incredible. There are great restaurants, complex museums, and an array of shopping outlets where you’re almost guaranteed to find something that you like! The stores in Fort Worth are amazing and you can find almost anything that you think would suit your style!

Overall, Fort Worth is an entertaining city and there is truly so much to do! There are delicious restaurants, beautiful scenery, and cool places to shop and spend your night. Grab a bite to eat at Gemelle, go dancing in the Stockyards, grab ice cream in Sundance Square, or explore the zoo on your next day off in Fort Worth!
