Miss Universe 2025: A Queen with or without a Crown

“Porque los sueños se convieren en realidad, y porque Dios asĂ lo quiso” (“Because dreams become reality and because that’s how God wanted it”), stated Fatima Bosch Fernandez, the Miss Universe 2025 and Miss Universe Mexico 2025 winner. This is one of the most inspiring quotes of the year: it reaffirms that God’s purpose for our lives has already been written and that we will be wherever we need to be at the right time because every moment in our lives, good and bad, serves a purpose.

Just this past week, our new Miss Universe was crowned, and the winner was Fatima Bosch from Mexico. As a Mexican, I am obviously extremely happy and proud of her, and not only for representing Mexico, but also for her friendly and genuine energy. She not only speaks about her beliefs but also stands up for them by serving the community.

When Fatima Bosch won Miss Universe Mexico 2025, only four of the other delegates ran out to hug and celebrate her, while the rest were celebrating the 2nd runner-up (3rd place), who, after talking about empowering women, tried to take Fatima down behind the cameras. Next, Nawat Itsaragrisil, the head of Miss Universe in Thailand, yelled at Fatima and tried to silence her. This happened during a conference with all the delegates; he told her that she shouldn’t be speaking unless he allowed her to speak up. He asked her, “Why are you speaking?”, and she responded by saying that she could speak because she is a woman who has a voice. Then she walked out, and some of the other delegates who supported her followed her, but then Nawat threatened them by saying that whoever walked out would no longer be in the competition.

Keep in mind that this is an organization that is supposed to uplift women. Even Miss Universe 2024 walked out during this conference, and many other Miss Universes from previous years spoke out about the saddening event and about Fatima’s bravery for standing up for her beliefs when she knew it was possible that she could lose her spot in Miss Universe. This all happened because Fatima hadn’t posted much about Thailand on her social media, and it seems like Nawat wanted her to.

After she was crowned Miss Universe, many began to speculate that her crown was bought. I am not sure how true this is, but many people seem to believe that this is true and that the victory was achieved through dishonest means. I truly hope that this is not the case, and I honestly believe that, if it were, she and her family weren’t aware of it, based on their reactions. I don’t say this because she is Mexican, like me; I would still hold the same beliefs if she were from another country or looked different. Her actions have proved that she cares about uplifting women and caring for those who are currently in a position where they can’t use their voices. She has demonstrated that she not only speaks but also acts. I believe that’s what makes a Miss Universe: committing yourself to community service around the world, backing up your words with action, and remaining humble, despite having many riches and luxuries.

Something that I also love about Fatima is that she is charismatic and authentic. She isn’t afraid to dance and enjoy herself for fear of not looking picture-perfect. Before the preliminary, she’s been seen dancing authentically with people in Thailand. She’s also talked to various delegates from diverse backgrounds with the same friendly tone, rather than isolating herself with those who are similar in background to her.

I see Fatima Bosch as a role model. I admire her strong faith and her ability to trust God to guide her. I think that both the good and bad things that have happened to her only demonstrate that God allowed her to win Miss Universe Mexico so that the event with Nawat could happen and other women who were watching could gain confidence as women. Fatima shows that, no matter how much hate you receive, you are strong enough to fight and keep going. She is a person who puts actions behind her words and truly cares about uplifting women. Regardless of what happened this year and all the horrible comments that she is receiving, Fatima is a queen with or without a crown, and nobody can deny that she naturally radiates a soft and calming energy.
