There is a distinct energy that washes over Fort Worth on a home game Saturday. Long before kickoff at Amon G. Carter Stadium, campus transforms into a sea of purple, cowboy boots, and classic Texas hospitality. Whether you’re heading to your first tailgate or looking to elevate your game day routine, here’s some info on how to navigate game days in the Fort.
The “Pregame”
Game day starts hours before the teams take the field. The energy is everywhere across campus and the surrounding communities.
- Frog Alley: opening three hours before kickoff, Frog Alley is the central pregame hub. There are food trucks, live music, and booths for all different kinds of organizations.
- The Frog Walk: Head to Frog Alley two hours before kickoff to cheer on the team as they arrive. Led by SuperFrog, the TCU Showgirls, Rangers, and cheerleaders, it’s the best way to get hyped for the game.
- Tailgate central: From Schollmaier Lawn to private lots around campus, tailgate setups bring out the classic Texas BBQ and music to get you pumped for the game!
Stadium Traditions
- “Go Frogs” Hand sign.
- The “Riff Ram” chant: the classic chant, more than a century old, “Riff, Ram, Bah, Zoo” is the cheer that brings the student section together after every touchdown. Get ready to shout alongside tons of fans when the Frogs score!
- Frog Horn and Fireworks: Another touchdown tradition is the 3,000-pound train horn blaring from the sidelines, paired with fireworks lighting up the stadium.
Post-Game Dinner Spots
- Dutch’s Hamburgers: This is a staple spot for an after-game dinner with your friends or family. Right across from campus, Dutch’s gets packed after a long day of Horned Frog Football.
- Buffalo Bros: Also right across from campus, you can grab pizza, wings, and fuel up after a winning game.
- Lot 12 Rooftop Bar: On top of the Hyatt, it’s a great spot to grab a drink and celebrate a Frogs win with friends.
