Are you ready to find your next favorite book? If you’re anything like me, you’ve probably spent hours scouring the countless shelves of a Barnes and Noble with absolutely no idea where to start. Maybe you have a specific genre in mind, but there’s no “enemies to lovers” section in the library. Well, I have your solution! BookTok is a subcommunity on TikTok, filled with countless creators devoted to finding and sharing their favorite reads. Many creators in the BookTok community focus on specific genres. If you already know what you like to read, a little bit of searching can help you find a creator with book recommendations catered directly to your interests! If you’re not sure what you’re looking for, don’t worry! The BookTok community has an enormous amount of content, and it’s growing every day, so you’re sure to find something that piques your interest. Because of bookTok, I have discovered some of my new absolute favorites and have grown my reading list more than ever. Here are some places to start, along with some of my favorite creators:

Getting into BookTok: If you’re looking to step into the subcommunity, the first step is as simple as searching #BookTok in the TikTok app. The amount of content may seem daunting, but most popular creators begin their videos with a hook that quickly lets you know if this is the video for you. The tag has everything from sci-fi to classic literature, so, with a little bit of digging, your next read is sure to be in there somewhere. The hashtag has over 40 billion views of avid readers worldwide and thousands of videos of recommendations, reviews, and discourse over every book imaginable. If this seems like a bit too much to dive right into, I have a few creators that I’d love to share to set you on the right path.

@BettysBookList: If you’re looking for an entertaining creator to draw you in, Betty is the creator for you! In each of her videos, she describes the plot as the main character living inside the story. She has been posting on TikTok since April of 2021 and has given nearly 200 recommendations in the past year. Her book recommendations mainly fall into dramas, psychological thrillers, and romance novels. Betty is incredible at providing just enough information to get you hooked without spoiling any of the plots. If this sounds like the content you want to see, her first three pinned videos on her page are great examples of her content.

@Portable_Magic: If you resonated with my “enemies to lovers” comment, this is the creator for you. @Portable_Magic on TikTok focuses primarily on book recommendations by popular tropes and the emotions within the book’s theme. Her feed is highly aesthetically pleasing and advertises topics such as right person wrong time, I hate everything but you, and, of course, the infamous enemies to lovers; plus much more! The content of each video is displayed in the cover photo, so not only is her page easy on the eyes, but it’s effortless to navigate.

@Jena.Loves.Books: Jena’s account is pretty typical of what you expect in the BookTok community. Jena’s content primarily focuses on what she’s reading and her opinions of the books. She has an extensive array of content but focuses on what’s popular and trending. So if you’re looking to see if that book that everyone is raving about is actually worth it, Jena is the person to go to.

As I said before, the community is enormous and growing every day, so if you don’t find what you’re looking for in this list, keep searching! The beauty of BookTok is that it really is for everyone. All across TikTok are readers just like you excited to help you navigate all things literature. I promise you, your next read is just a click away. I love BookTok, and you will too. Happy reading!
