Why Breakups Can Turn Out to Be Beautiful

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at TCNJ chapter.

The sleep you’re losing, the tears you’re shedding, and every sad song now playing all add up to one thing: it’s over, and now, you’re officially going through a breakup.

It is so difficult to be sidelined with an out-of-the-blue breakup, and even more difficult to endure afterwards. But, breakups are the end of one thing and the start of so much more, and here are a few reasons why breakups actually can turn out to be beautiful.

1. Love is blind, and maybe so were you

Maybe your girlfriends advised you that your boyfriend was not treating you right, but you ignored them, because you were in love. Sound familiar? We all wear rose-colored glasses in a relationship and can sometimes go blind to problems that are obvious. Breaking away from your partner and finally seeing things clearly can make you realize the error of your ways, and the ways of the one you loved. The truth sets you free.

2. You now have time to focus on yourself

Now that you’re single, you get to reclaim your independence and starting doing things for the number one priority in your life: you. Gone are the days of losing sleep talking to a boy or stale dates to the grocery store! You can choose to do whatever is going to make you happiest that you were held back from doing in your relationship. Try something new, like eating right, working out, going out with your friends, or whatever your heart wants!

3. You now know what you need in a relationship.

Now that you’ve been through your breakup, you know what you need and what you don’t. Going through a breakup is great for understanding what you truly want and need from your next partner and from yourself, whether it’s more freedom, better communication, or a stronger commitment.

4. Hey, better always awaits!

Listen, I’m sure your ex was gorgeous, but there are plenty of other people out there just waiting to meet you, trust me. When the time is right and you’re ready, you’ll know. Let someone new in after really focusing on what you’re now looking for.
