If you were on Tiktok at all this year, then you know how popular Euphoria was. For months, the only thing anyone was talking about on any social media was Euphoria Season 2. Everyone I knew was getting together with friends to spend their Sunday nights tuned in… every Sunday was “Euphoria Sunday.” Whether it be to watch Cassie and Maddy fight or to see Lexi’s highly anticipated play, Euphoria had everyone hooked throughout this whole year.
2. Abbot Elementary
Ever since the age of streaming, many people have wondered about the death of the network sitcom. However, Abbot Elementary changed the game and revived the true network sitcom. Quinta Brunston’s workplace comedy about school teachers in Philadelphia has changed the sitcom game completely. The show, which is the most-tweeted-about show of 2022, has managed to become a comfort show while also being one of the most original comedies we have seen in a while.
3. Stranger Things
It took three years and a pandemic to head back to Hawkins, but after watching Season 4 of the iconic show, it was worth the wait. Once again, the show took all social media by storm, especially Tiktok. Throughout the summer of 2022, the everyone’s for-you-page consisted of fan theories, Vecna, and everyone blasting “Running Up That Hill.” Season 4 was thrilling and had the whole gang back trying to take down Vecna. It connected all the dots and set the stage for the final installment of the series.
4. Wednesday
I would argue that Wednesday is not only one of the most popular shows of this year, but one of the most popular Netflix shows of all time. The Tim-Burton take on the iconic Wednesday Addams is the story of Wednesday trying to navigate high school, while also dealing with a local murder. Jenna Ortega, truly one of the most iconic stars of this year, takes on Wednesday in a whole new light. Everyone is now hooked, especially those on TikTok obsessed with doing Wednesday’s iconic dance from the show. With only being released this past November, in the past 2 months, Wednesday has become truly one of the most talked about series of this year.
5. The White Lotus
Not to play favorites, but The White Lotus Season 2 is probably my favorite and most talked about show of 2022. This satirical comedic drama takes you into a dreamy resort with several groups of resort guests with all different secrets. Jennifer Coolidge is a star as always, Aubrey Plaza is at her best, Theo James is ever-so attractive, and Meghann Fahy is a star. Whether it was social media dissecting the symbolism and coming up with elaborate theories or judging Porcia’s questionable outfit choices, everyone was hooked. With the finale recently airing and everyone still discussing it all over social media, the show took the last couple of months of 2022 by storm.
