LikeALittle. Iseentyou. TCNJ Compliments. And now, TCNJ Secrets is taking our campus by storm. As this Facebook page says, “Share your secrets. There’s so much more to this campus than meets the eye,” and that’s exactly what TCNJ students are doing.
Sometimes a secret just shouldn’t be shared in casual conversation, but much like a whispered bit of gossip, TCNJ Secrets allows students to share their crazy antics, deepest fears, and beautiful and/or drunken love stories without having to worry about judgment or repercussions. Though not everyone on this Facebook page has nice comments for their peers, most of them are willing to encourage and sympathize with their fellow secret keepers.
Some secrets are sweet admissions of love like Secret #18: “I found my future here, and it wasn’t in a classroom. He was right downstairs,” or Secret #57: “Floorcest? My girlfriend was on my floor freshman year, and she’s the best thing to happen to me at this college. Floorcest aint all that bad.” Some secrets are less about love and more about lust, as various TCNJ sexcapaders cite the buildings on campus in which they did the dirty with their partners in crime.
(NOTE: No building is safe!!)
Others are of sillier nature like Secret #113: “ I never saw the Lion King,” and Secret #12: “I pretend like I don’t care whenever Big Larry doesn’t ask how I’m doing, but a little part of me dies inside.” Several were probably posted when someone was a little tipsy, like Secret #66: “I legitimately believe that all of the professors at this school are walruses. Whenever I bring this up in conversation at parties, I get verbally abused and as a result get indigestion. It’s gotten to the point where Pepto-Bismol makes up approximately 20-25% of my monetary spending at college. It’s a shit life.” This post received a comment that perhaps students shouldn’t post secrets when they aren’t sober.
The last group shares secrets of a more serious nature, like the brave student who posted Secret #89: “I AM A VIRGIN AND I’M PROUD,” or the sadly single student who confessed “I always thought I’d find ‘the one’ in college but I’m graduating this semester and I’m still alone,” in Secret #16. While not everyone has a kind word for these people, most offer advice, encouragement, and compliments on their strength and beauty.
But we’re not done yet. The anonymous TCNJ Secrets administrator posted recently that he/she is thinking about starting a new page for TCNJ students to post about events on campus they’re interested in going to, but don’t have anyone to go with. This way, people can find new (and old) friends that have the same interests as them and can get more involved on campus because of it. Is this the next thing for TCNJ students? Perhaps. Either way, while the TCNJ Secrets page won’t last forever, the TCNJ students will always have their secrets.
