Summer Livin’ Had Us A Blast: HC E-Board Summer Recap

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at TCNJ chapter.

The lovely ladies of Her Campus TCNJ didn’t let the heat slow them down this summer; from traveling to exotic lands, to landing dream internships, these ambitious ladies did it all! Here, the Her Campus E-board shares how they spent the summer months:

Hilarey Wojtowicz

“Over the summer, I worked at Michael Kors in Menlo Park Mall! It was a simple retail job, but it was so much fun and I loved learning more and more about fashion. I think it really helped to prepare me for my internship at a magazine this Fall semester as I now have a few cute dresses and nice accessories!”

“After putting in hours at my marketing/communications internship at an oceanfront condo association, I spent my summer going to concerts, hitting the beach, and going out with friends.”

Christine Aebischer

“The most exciting thing I did this summer was my study abroad in Paris, France. I had wanted to go to Paris for my entire life, so it was literally a dream come true. I had the most amazing time exploring the city, and the class was interesting too, so that was a great bonus. I did everything from climbing to the top of the Eiffel Tower, attending a concert in Notre Dame, and shopping along the Champs-Élysées. “

Kimberly Horner

“This summer I became a Contributing Writer for the national portion of Her Campus, worked at a children’s theatre camp, and interned at PHL 17 – a TV station in Philadelphia. I had to wake up at 4 a.m. to get to the station every morning, but it was totally worth it! Besides learning how to shoot video, edit packages, and writescript, I interviewed professional athletes, was given a makeover live on the air, held a snake, and got to pet a baby sloth!”

Nicole Mulvaney

“This summer, I interned with lovelyish.com writing blog posts about celebrity gossip, pop culture, DIY crafts and food, fashion, beauty, etc. I wrote about 8-12 posts per week and had a great experience networking with fellow interns and learning more about crafting engaging online content for a broader audience with varied goals. My family and I also vacationed in Wildwood, NJ for a few days, which was a very fun getaway that wasn’t too far from home. We visited the boardwalk and surf shops, rode jet skis, rented bikes, and just enjoyed the summer sun and each other’s company. “

Jackie O’Malley

“I spent four weeks in Florence, Italy where I took a class in travel writing and blogged for International Studies Abroad. While being away in Italy, I was able to visit places like Rome, Pompei Cinque Terre, Siena, the Amalfi Coast. My favorite part was hiking Mt. Vesuvius, the active volcano that wiped out Pompei! But since all good things come to an end, upon my return it was back to reality and I spent my time working and studying for the GRE’s.”

Sam Pena

“I participated in the REDI program, went to Hawaii and Canada, interned at a research library in New York, read a ton of books on my gigantic summer reading list, learned how to knit, and lounged around on the beach. I had a lot of family bonding nights and crazy fun times with friends who may as well be my siblings. Long story short, it was a perfect summer.”

Christine Rehm

“I started my summer interning in the HR department at MediFit Corporate Services, which is a company that designs and manages health and fitness centers. To earn some extra cash I also started waitressing at a local pizzeria on the weekends. Despite eating pizza and pasta at almost every shift, I still haven’t gotten sick of it. At the end of the summer, I spent a week with my family on vacation in Hawaii! The plane ride was ten hours, but so worth it! I went snorkeling and horseback riding, and I learned to hula! It was so heartbreaking to leave an island as beautiful as Oahu, but I’m super excited for another semester at TCNJ and of course, another great year of HC articles!”

Laura Alshamie

“I spent my summer at TCNJ. I took STATS 115 during maymester, WGS470 during A session, and spent the remainder of the summer working with incoming freshman in the Educational Opportunity Fund!”

Katie Moran

“I was hired in early May at a new candy shop called Candylicious of Randolph and I absolutely LOVED working there…I mean, who wouldn’t, it’s a candy store! It was a spectacular way to spend my summer. Aside from working, I ran a 5K with my mom in June and made several day trips down to Point Pleasant beach with my friends. One of the highlights of my summer was working Freshmen Orientation as an Ambassador. In July I went to visit my family out in San Diego and while I was out there I went speedboating, visited the San Diego Zoo, and had the best Mexican food of my life!”

Rachel Chlebowski

“This summer I became a world traveler, more or less. In May I went to Israel through Taglit-Birthright with my best friend, and then a month later I went to England on the TCNJ Harlaxton Program, in which we stayed in a castle and visited Paris and Dublin on the weekends. And then I interned four days a week after returning to the states. All in all, I had an epic summer and I miss it already.”
