The beginning of autumn means many things: a new semester, pumpkin-flavored everything, and fall fashion, just to name a few. With the cooler temperatures and remaining threat of COVID-19 lingering outdoors, this fall will definitely force us indoors more than ever. This fall will bring us plenty of time to get cozy and put the TV on – and there are so many spooky options to choose from. If you are a fan of horror, monsters, or you just want something dark, Her Campus has your October binge watch covered!

American Horror Story (Hulu & Netflix)

Created by Ryan Murphy, every season is a different “horror story,” each one more twisted than the last. This series has covered classic horror from witch covens, evil clowns, the apocalypse, and asylum. With nine seasons to choose from, there is something scary for everybody, and stars like Evan Peters and Sarah Paulson have mastered the art of making creepy characters. Each season transports viewers to another time and place, and these episodes are truly an escape from reality.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer (Hulu)

This classic ‘90s show features Sarah Michelle Gellar as a teenage monster killer. With perfect fashion and creepy vampires, this show is a fantastic October binge watch. This series is full of plot twists and love triangles, making it a must for Twilight fans. Additionally, the show has a five-season spinoff called Angel, which follows the life of David Boreanaz as a vampire in L.A. after his time with Buffy.

The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (Netflix)

If you loved Melissa Joan Hart’s sitcom role as “Sabrina: the Teenage Witch,” this original Netflix series will give you a much edgier look into Sabrina. Played by Kiernan Shipka, this Sabrina faces challenges much darker than the original, in a series that stays true to Sabina’s role in the Archie comic books. And yes, Salem, the talking cat is still a vital role in this version of Sabrina’s story.

Supernatural (Netflix)

With the fifteenth and final season airing this October, the Winchester brothers have provided us with 14 bingeable seasons, full of monster-killing, devil-hunting, and plot-twisting mayhem. Supernatural is a show that has it all and many of its episodes follow cases like any typical crime show… except these cases are far from typical. This is the perfect show for anyone who likes classic rock and watching hot guys fight evil.

Twin Peaks (Hulu, Netflix, and SHO)

Originally airing from 1990 to 1991, Twin Peaks perfected the dark undertone of eerie cinematography. The series follows an FBI agent in a small town investigating the disappearance of a troubled teenage girl. The show has some elements of fantasy and many scenes become warped to the agent’s imagination. This show has the ultimate “scary hometown mystery” vibes and it walked so that Riverdale could run. 25 years after it was cancelled, Twin Peaks received a third and final 2017 season on Showtime, tying up the loose ends left behind by its cancellation in 1991.
