It’s the most wonderful time of the year and no I don’t mean Christmas. It is officially Spooky Season so let the spooky activities begin! Everything about the October aesthetic radiates happiness, from the different color leaves to the fashion choices, to the pumpkin spice lattes, and if you’re anything like me, you would love to get out of the house before that seasonal depression kicks in.

Not only is Halloween the time when ghosts, ghouls, and goblins run amuck, but it also means cuffing season has begun. Unfortunately, as a college student, not only is it a bit difficult to find time for coupling activities during the spooky season, but it’s even harder partaking in any activities as a broke college student. Fear no more because I am here to recommend 5 cute spooky season date ideas that are inexpensive and can be easily executed for you and your boo to enjoy!

  1. 31 Nights of Halloween Movie Marathon

One can’t celebrate Halloween without watching a couple of spooky movies that will either make you sleep with lights on or feel nostalgia. The TV Network “Freeform” has a special in October when they show different Halloween movies every day for the month until October 31st called “31 Nights of Halloween.” If you are unable to catch a couple of the films they show on the network that’s okay, you just simply create your own personalized list! You and your partner pick 15 of your favorite spooky films each and then collectively choose one together. Every night after classes and completing homework, one person picks the name of a movie at random, and then the both of you enjoy a night together cuddled up in front of the TV or your computer, with your favorite comfort snack, sit back, relax and enjoy the movie! If you would like some film recommendations, check out my 31 Nights of Halloween Movie suggestions!

  1. Scary Picture Paint and Sip

Paint and Sips have become an extremely popular way for friends, family, and couples to come together and relax. Instead of picking random pictures to paint or color, let’s add a touch of spookiness to it. Choose Halloween-related images to paint instead, like pumpkins or ghosts! Crack open your favorite bottle of wine or soda/juice (depending on your age) and turn it into a competition to see who can draw and paint the best picture! Draw a scene from your favorite scary movie and see if your partner or friend can guess what movie it’s from. There are multiple ways you can spin this activity to make it fun and creative, which can result in an eventful inexpensive night!

  1. Bake Off

If you are someone who enjoys cooking and you want to be a little active this spooky season, a bake-off between you and your partner is the way to go! Go to your local store/market, pick up the ingredients you need, and have a bake-off! Challenge your creative side and see who can design the best Halloween-themed pastries! Who wouldn’t love to stick their face into a bat-shaped brownie, or a pumpkin-shaped cookie? Yum!

  1. Picnic In The Park

The temperature is beginning to gradually drop, which means less time we are able to spend outside. Before that happens, if there is a day that’s not too chilly and the sun makes a grand appearance, why not have a picnic? You can combine all the previous activities listed to make this picnic in the park as spooky as possible! After baking your favorite snacks, go outside, put down a blanket, surround yourself with as many beautiful leaves as possible, and have a painting competition while your favorite horror films are playing in the background! Eat some pizza, enjoy some cider, and devour a bat brownie if there’s still room in your belly!

  1. Go Trick r’ Treating

When it comes to inexpensive Halloween activities you can NEVER go wrong with the old fashion trick r’ treating! Create some costumes and go out together to collect some candy. Yes, we aren’t children anymore but there is no age limit on trick r’ treating. If you want to spice it up a little bit, see who can collect the most candy by the end of the night or who can receive the most compliments on their costume, the winner is then given a prize. This is a great opportunity to become imaginative and artistic! What’s that one Halloween costume that you’ve always wanted to wear as a kid?

If you are not in a relationship that’s completely fine, these ideas are very versatile and can be executed with your group of friends as well, the more the merrier right? Hope you have a frightening, spine-chilling, spooky season! Remember this Halloween, never say “Beetlejuice” three times and it’s all a bunch of Hocus Pocus.
