Songs to Make You Feel Something During the Lonely Hours

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at TCNJ chapter.

We’ve all have those days where you want to crawl into your bed, put your whole body under the covers, and just cry. I’ve had plenty of those days, just like many of you— the days where you can’t take any more words from others and you can’t take any more disappointment in yourself. You just want to drown out the unsettling noise and embrace yourself into something that will make you feel whole again.

It’s going to happen and it’s going to suck, and unfortunately I don’t have the remedy to make those days disappear. But I do have something to make it not so horrible: a playlist of songs. Songs that will give you an anchor to hold onto when you have no one else around or don’t want anyone else around. Songs that will go in and out of your head, making your bed a safe haven. Songs to bring you back to the times when you weren’t going through these days. Songs that will make you feel something when the lonely hours start knocking on your door.

Now, if you’re like me, you probably immediately go on YouTube and search for songs when you feel alone or want slow music to drown out society. I admit, sometimes I will choose a YouTube playlist and listen to it on repeat because it just gets me in my feelings. It makes me feel just a teensy bit less alone when I can relate to the lyrics and the melodies. Also, reading the comments below YouTube playlists and seeing other people’s experiences adds even more comfort. This is why I believe we should all should have a go-to playlist to release tears to and to make us feel better— so, if you don’t have that, then you came to the right article.

I’m really into lofi, bedroom, slowed, eerie-sounding music. I formed a playlist for this vibe on Spotify, but it has 140 songs, so I’ll spare you and will not list all of them: just the ones that have really helped me and can maybe help you. I’ve separated them into categories for different situations. Hope these songs help!
