Summer has officially come to an end, which means the fall vibes are in full swing! With the weather getting cooler and the leaves starting to pile up, it is important to have a daily soundtrack to match the atmosphere. Here are my top picks for the ultimate autumn playlist!

Note: These suggestions are generally in the alternative, indie, pop, folk, and rock genres!

1. Like Real People Do – Hozier

Starting strong with a passionate song by our favorite Irish singer. It fits the gentle love that comes with the fall season.

2. marjorie – Taylor Swift

Swifties know that this song is about Swift’s grandmother. The graceful lyrics tell a story that is relatable to many.

3. Next to You – John Vincent III

I feel this song echoing in my soul when I hear it. The deep feelings of a solemn fall are prominent in John Vincent III’s strong vocals.

4. Forever – Noah Kahan

These lyrics are sweet and reminiscent at times, affirming that love is possible for anyone. Additionally, the slower parts of the song evoke a warm and fuzzy feeling in my heart.

5. New Slang – The Shins

The Shins are not nearly as recognized as they should be! This song has a nice, upbeat indie tune.

6. Autumn Leaves – Ed Sheeran

I mean, it’s pretty self-explanatory. But really, this song is beautiful, and it dives into the difficult emotions one experiences when dealing with loss.

7. Night Changes – One Direction

This song (and the music video) is so iconic. I strongly associate it with the change from warm to cold weather.

8. There She Goes – The La’s

I listen to this and pretend I am Rory Gilmore walking through Stars Hollow. It was in the pilot episode of “Gilmore Girls,” after all.

9. All Too Well (10 Minute Version) (Taylor’s Version) – Taylor Swift

No explanation needed.

10. Everywhere, Everything – Noah Kahan & Gracie Abrams

A beautiful song about loving someone unconditionally. The vocals of Kahan and Abrams are a force to be reckoned with, possessing immense power and emotion.

11. Winds of Change – Vance Joy

Everyone knows Vance Joy for the song “Riptide” that caters more towards the summer season, but this song is perfect for autumn! His indie vocals provide a calm and irresistible feeling.

12. Cigarette Daydreams – Cage the Elephant

One of my favorite songs to belt out. Cage the Elephant has a unique alt-rock sound that keeps bringing you back for more.

13. Sweater Weather – The Neighborhood

Quite literally the title of the entire fall season. This alternative style that The Neighborhood is known for will add a fresh sound to your track list.

14. Cinnamon Girl – Lana Del Rey

I couldn’t create this list without Lana Del Rey’s mysterious and nostalgic style. Her melancholic tone is compelling and fits the more somber autumn.

15. Cleopatra – The Lumineers

The meaning of this song is beautiful, being based on the life story of a woman whom the lead singer met while riding in her taxi.

16. Little Freak – Harry Styles

One of my favorites from his album Harry’s House! I feel that this one caters specifically to a more subtle Halloween vibe.

17. Halloween – Noah Kahan

Can you tell I love Noah Kahan? This one is more clearly fall-themed from the name itself, but the lyrics help its case further.

18. Kiss Me – Sixpence None the Richer

Every time I hear this song, I feel like I’m coming straight out of the late ’90s film She’s All That. I may not be a real rom-com star, but it helps me feel like I am surrounded by descending fall leaves.

19. Fade into You – Mazzy Star

This gentle song has a beautiful underlying acoustic tune that feels crisp and youthful.

20. Apocalypse – Cigarettes After Sex

This song has an alluring feeling that is so addictive. It feels like you are walking in your own fall world.

21. Heaven Knows I’m Miserable Now – The Smiths

Sad, but catchy. The Smiths excel at the contrasting duality of an appealing melody and deep lyricism.

22. Secluded Recluse – Rachel Croom

This up-and-coming indie artist’s craft is impeccable, making it clear how she has mastered her style and tone. This song has a rainy autumn day feel, making it an obvious repeat.

23. Turn Me On – Norah Jones

A jazz artist who lacks recognition from the younger generation. Her smooth and sultry vocals make her an instant favorite.

24. Funeral – Phoebe Bridgers

A real tear-jerker. Definitely leans more into the sad-girl-autumn vibe.

25. About You – The 1975

If a dream were a song, it would be this one. It feels ethereal, with the lyrics echoing in your ears.

26. No One Noticed – The Marías

I stumbled across this song randomly one day, and it immediately entranced me with its vocals and overall tone. Definitely an essential if you’re looking for a chill alternative sound to add.

27. Dreams – Fleetwood Mac

A classic.

28. Roslyn – St. Vincent and Bon Iver

Soft, emotional and powerful simultaneously, this song is haunting in the best way.

29. My Love Mine All Mine – Mitski

This song has the most cozy vibes. It makes you want to cuddle up by a fire with the people you love.

30. From the Dining Table – Harry Styles

A lesser recognized Harry Styles song, possibly from its more emotionally raw sound as opposed to his typical upbeat pop sound. It definitely fits the quiet feeling that fall provides.

I know there are so many amazing songs that I missed (trust me, I had to cut them down a lot), but those are for you to find and add to your playlist! Cozy up and happy listening!
