It can be really hard to find motivation to study…trust me, I get it! Especially as a freshman, the workload is hard to adapt to. But, I got you! Here are some of my favorite study hacks (as someone who hates studying and would rather just doomscroll).
Put a barrier around your phone
When you’re studying, put a hair tie or something similar around your phone. If you feel the urge to stop and go on your phone, the inconvenience of removing the barrier will make you less likely to use it. It might slightly annoy you at first, but it works!
Switching settings
If you ever start to get unmotivated or distracted, switch locations! Start in your dorm, then go to the library, or the student center. Your mind gets tired while studying so a change in environment will motivate you and help you focus.Â
Make yourself cozyÂ
Don’t make yourself study in a hostile environment…get cozy! If you’re in your dorm, set up some mood lighting, grab a blanket, and get comfy. If you like to go to the library or somewhere else on campus, put on some comfy clothes, grab a coffee, and lock in!
Do not disturb
If you’re like me, it can be hard for you to go on DND…the constant fear of missing an important notification is enough to distract you. But it can actually be really helpful; whenever you hear the vibrate or ringtone, you’re gonna check your phone and get sucked in. Put on Do Not Disturb for an hour or two and get the studying over with!
Don’t overwork
Yes, it’s important to study, but it’s just as important to take care of yourself. Study for 25 minutes, then get a 5 minute break. You need to take care of your mind, don’t overdo it!
