The Lego Movie 2 is a lot darker than the first one. It’s been five years since everything was awesome. Lucy (Elizabeth Banks), Emmett (Chris Pratt), and Batman (Will Arnett) are attempting to rebuild their town after invaders take over. But, when Lucy is kidnapped, it’s up to Emmett to grow up and find Lucy before it’s too late. The characters are more pessimistic from how we remember them.

The messages in the first movie were very positive while the sequel shows a darker side to it. I liked that the sequel changed it up a bit. Some of my favorite lines were when Lucy, Emmett, or Batman interacted with each other. Their banter and Lucy’s sarcasm is what kept me awake during this movie. This movie isn’t just for kids — adults can find the humor in it as well. This is a family friendly movie that isn’t solely geared towards the kids.

I enjoyed the overall plot and its plot twist was really good. For once, I didn’t see it coming. This movie had a lot of hype, but unfortunately, it didn’t measure up to the first film. The soundtrack wasn’t nearly as good as the first and was actually irritating. Although it was fun to see what Emmett, Lucy, and Batman were up to, it wasn’t worth watching in theatres. Feel free to disagree with me on this, but I wish they stopped after the first one.

Overall, it’s a decent movie. I would give it a 3/5 stars. I’ve seen better movies, but it wasn’t terrible. It’s good to see with a group of friends or with your family.
