Corned beef, soda bread and fried potatoes, oh my! As if St. Patrick’s day wasn’t already associated with not particularly health-conscious foods, let’s add another: The Shamrock Shake. Minty and creamy, it’s hard to resist this McDonald’s favorite that ranges from 530-820 calories and 15-23 grams of fat per serving. We’ve given this milkshake a healthy makeover so that you can save room for other indulgences…like the beer.

Recipe:

Serves 2

1-6 oz container of vanilla yogurt, frozen (any kind you like – we chose Whole Soy Vanilla)

1-cup light vanilla soymilk or almond milk

1 banana, chopped and frozen

1 handful of frozen or fresh spinach (you won’t taste it, we promise)

1 handful of ice cubes

½ teaspoon of mint extract

Combine ingredients into your blender and blend until smooth.  For thicker shakes, use more ice. For thinner shakes, use more milk. Enjoy!
