Just because we’re in college, doesn’t mean we have to stop dressing up for Halloween. If anything, college is where the real fun begins. Even if you don’t have a car on campus, and have no way to get a costume before October 31st, you can still go as something other than yourself! Here are five suggestions that are easy to put together with what you have in your dorm.

Classic Rachel Berry

If you’re a fan of Glee, you’ve probably considered going as Rachel Berry in the past. Now that she’s gotten a make-over, dressing as Classic Rachel Berry is even more vintage; it’s basically a more colorful, playful update on the sexy librarian look. Just get a cute skirt and a button-up with a cardigan or sweater vest, and some knee-highs or plain ole’ tights, and you’re good to go! For Rachel Berry fashion piece ideas, click here.

You could also just go as a sexy librarian, but doesn’t being Rachel Berry sound ten times more fun?!

Modern Disney Princess

Now’s a good time to shout out to my freshman floormates, who went as Disney Princesses for Halloween freshman year. It was adorable and it is inspiringly simple: just find pieces that coordinate with the Disney Princess you’re going as. Wear tans and nudes to be Pocahontas (Don’t forget a blue necklace to complete the look!), or wear a yellow dress as Belle, or a purple top with green bottoms to go as Ariel! Some examples can be found here.

Katniss Everdeen

Now that The Hunger Games movie is finally out (and on DVD, too!) everyone is lining up to go as the Mockingjay for Halloween. If you are in this line, your best bet would probably be to go as Katniss in her tribute gear. This involves cargo pants, a black shirt, a windbreaker, and a braid, which you can learn to imitate here. You can also wear a blue dress and go as Katniss at the Reaping, or a fiery red dress and go as Katniss at her interviews. Or, if you want to be really obscure while still being Katniss, you can wear a tight blue slick suit and be Katniss in the Quarter Quell uniform! Having a bow and arrows won’t hurt, either.

Cops/Robbers

Prepare for the inevitable Cops/Robbers themed party by being one for Halloween! To be a cop, all you need are black shorts and a blue button-up shirt; you can make a Police badge out of paper or foil. Aviators would probably be a nice accessory here.

To be a robber, you can wear black bottoms with a black-and-white striped shirt. Accessorize with combat boots to look as badass as possible.

Catwoman/Natasha from The Avengers

I am including both of these together as a bonus because they are more or less the same costume. To go as either of these ladies, you’ll need a slick black suit (or, you know, black leggings and a leather jacket). For Catwoman, you can tape folded black construction paper to a headband to wear as cat ears, and you can make a mask as well. To go as Natasha, wear some curls and red lipstick.

Rachel Chlebowski is an alumna of The College of New Jersey, where she sang with I-Tunes A Cappella, created props for TCNJ Musical Theater, spread literary cheer through Sigma Tau Delta English Honor Society, and wrote for Her Campus TCNJ. She enjoys reading novels and watching Netflix when she isn't editing manuscripts and media.
Hilarey Wojtowicz is a senior Journalism/Professional Writing major at The College of New Jersey. Hilarey works for TCNJ's Residential Education and Housing Department as a Community Advisor, but is truly aspiring to be the next Carrie Bradshaw. Not only does Hilarey love writing for her campus's chapter of Her Campus, but she enjoys writing about sports for local newspapers, as well. A true Jersey girl at heart, Hilarey is definitely not from the Boston area, but is a huge fan of the New England Patriots. You can find her interning in New York City this Fall at Woman's Day Magazine.
