If you’re like me and just happen to be a big football fan, then I am sure you are mentally, physically and emotionally preparing yourself for one of our biggest holidays of the year — Super Bowl Sunday.  But with the big game only days away, it is important to start planning where, how and with whom you plan to watch it.  Is it safe to have your Patriots fans and your Giants fans in the same room at the same party?  What type of food is the best to serve, especially when most of us collegiettes live in dorm rooms?  And how can you include those friends who really don’t care about Tom Brady or Eli Manning???

Follow these four last-minute Super Bowl party ideas to create the perfect place for your football friends.

1. Make the T.V. the main focus of the room.

When the Super Bowl is on, it is as if nothing else matters. Whether it be a touch-down, field goal, or maybe the awesome (and not so awesome) commercials that air during the game, everyone at your party is going to want the best seat in the house – or dorm room in this case.

Move your T.V. to somewhere in the center of the room, and test out all the possible seating options for your guests. Can you see what is happening on the screen from your futon near the window? How about if you are sitting on the floor? Checking all the different angles will prevent guests from complaining about not being able to see Madonna during the half time show (although, is that really a complaint?).

2. Set up a neutral environment.

The 2012 Super Bowl is a rematch between two of the most talented teams in the NFL, so you are sure to have fans from both sides at your party.

Set up neutral decorations in order to prevent any negative energy in the room. Have both New York and New England posters, flags, signs, etc. hanging amongst your walls, and then allow fans to take them home after the game in support of their favorite team.

By showing support for both teams, and allowing your friends to express which team they are rooting for openly, you too will be able to wear your Wes Welker jersey (like me) with no worries.

3. Keep with the classics.

When I think of football, I think of beer, hot wings, and a pretty big mess. But since we live in the residence halls, remember that alcohol may not be allowed, and wings can be messy and hard to keep warm in a place with no oven.

So, stick with the classics collegiettes – pretzels, chips, soda, water, etc. You can spice it up with a great dipping sauce or queso, which can be made in the microwave. Try this quick and easy recipe to keep your guests satisfied this Sunday.

4. Set up a Super Bowl Pool.

Everyone loves to win, even when their team doesn’t. So in order to keep people on their toes about the game, make a pool in which everyone can get involved for just a few bucks.

A Super Bowl pool is when participants choose certain numbers within a grid in order to predict how the score will be after each quarter. If your guests would like to be involved, have them chip in a few dollars, and fill out their squares on the grid. At the end of each quarter, check what the score is and who was right, and give that person a portion of the total amount of money that was collected at the start.

Whether you know football like the back of your hand, or you get confused between the Super Bowl and the World Series, you can easily get in the competitive spirit with this type of simple pool.

Alright collegiettes, now that you have what it takes to throw an awesome last-minute Super Bowl party, go show those men (I mean boys, *cough*) what you are made of. Get pumped because this Super Bowl is not one to be missed, and with this dorm-room party, your guests won’t want to leave (well maybe the Giants fans will, when their team loses…).
