Formal Recruitment as told by GIFS

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at TCNJ chapter.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Panhellenic Formal Recruitment is upon us once again and that means little sleep, sorority talk 24/7, and excessive girl flirting. The process is long and tiring, but it is totally worth it in hopes of finding the sorority where you belong. For girls going out for recruitment for the first time, it can be intimidating and scary, but here are some things to expect over the next two weeks:

1. “What’s your major/Where do you live on campus?” You’ll hear these questions so many times throughout the first weekend that you’ll want to rip your hair out. But the basics are essential in order to get to know you, so hopefully you like your major enough to keep saying it over and over again!

2. Hours upon hours of standing, talking, and smiling:Your feet will hurt at the end of the day. There’s a good chance you’ll lose your voice. Your muscles around your mouth will ache. But that’s okay because you get to do it all again the next day!

3. The dreaded phone callWaking up each morning, you will expect a phone call with your schedule for the day. This one phone call makes you so nervous that you can’t fall asleep the night before as you stare hopefully at a blank screen until it comes in the morning. But, when you find once you find out where you’re going that day, you forget that you wasted so much time worrying about a phone call.

4. 24/7 Sorority TalkYour floor will be all sorority talk for the next two weeks. Who got called back where, where did everyone get a bid from, anything that relates to recruitment- you’ll hear it. You’ll get so tired of talking about it but you also won’t get enough of it. It just makes the process that much more exciting.

5. You’ll learn more about the girls standing next to you in your recruitment group than you ever wanted to knowSometimes sororities will talk to girls two on one, therefore you share a conversation with another girl that is also going through recruitment. You will know her major, where she lives on campus, and any other stories and facts that she brings to the conversation. You walk in as strangers and walk out knowing more about her than she knows about herself.

6. Bid Day! The phrase ‘Bid Day, Best Day’ holds true- it is the day in which all the blood, sweat, and tears was worth it! Jump into your sister’s arms and welcome to your new home!
