Five Reasons Why Lip Gloss is the Absolute Worst

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at TCNJ chapter.

I recently started a mini internship in New York City to occupy my time over winter break. Because of this, I wanted to look professional and decided I would try really hard to come to work everyday looking my best. This included doing my hair, wearing a full face of makeup, and wearing trendy outfits. (It sounded like a great idea until I had to wake up at 5:15 every morning.) And since the city is very go go go, I decided that matte lipstick that fades and leaves ugly splotchy stains on my lips were a waste of time. And thus I thought that a cute coat of gloss would leave my lips shiny and save me from faded stains. I was proven very wrong. Here are my five reasons why lip gloss is the absolute worst:

1. The Texture is Awful

Everything about the texture makes me cringe, it’s so goopy and feels like you have honey spread all over your lips! I will never wear it again, unless they magically come out with gloss that I can’t feel when I wear it!

2. That Moment When Your Hair Gets Stuck in it

As I mentioned, working in the city, in January, means a lot of wind. Ultimately creating the most disastrous combination of hair being blown into my goopy lips. Not only does it mess up my gloss, but my hair is in a sticky knot by the time I get to the office.

3. It’s Terribly Sticky

Is there anything less becoming than opening your mouth to speak and strands of gloss tries to stick your lips together? And even worse, when it ends up on your teeth and in your mouth. Yuck.

4. The Burning Sensation (Plumping Glosses)

Who doesn’t want full juicy Kylie Jenner lips? But who has the time or money to stick needles in your lips? That’s why I thought a plumping gloss would be great! I had hoped that it would give me a plump pout, but instead, all it gave me was intense burning and stinging in my lips. And honestly, I didn’t see much of a difference in plump.

5. It Transfers Everywhere

This goes with most lip products, but it just grosses me out when I take a sip of coffee and goop is all over the lid. Thank you, next.

I think I will stick to a nice creamy lipstick, even if it does wear off every hour, at least I won’t have to feel so uncomfortable throughout my day! I recently found that Tom Ford has really amazing cream lipsticks that I can’t feel at all! I highly suggest it, if you’re like me and can’t stand feeling goop on your lips!
