The 2016 election is fast approaching and for many, including me, this will be our first election experience! This year’s presidential election is unlike anything we’ve witnessed before, with higher stakes and a very important aftereffect. For those of you who are still in the dark about the election or confused as to what happens next, here are some resources and tips to enhance your election experience!

  1. Register to Vote

In addition to being a US citizen, most states have various voting requirements. In New Jersey, the deadline to vote is October 18, which is fast approaching. In order to register you must print out the form, fill it out, and mail it to your county commissioner of registration.

  1.  Compare your Views to the Presidential Candidates

Websites like Project Vote Smart can inform you about where each candidate stands on a number of issues. Websites like ISideWith allow you to gauge issues by how important they are to you and to each candidate to help you make a better decision on who to vote for.

  1.  Watch the Debates

Watching the candidates debate about important issues against themselves is a great way to learn more about their stands on issues. Listening to them speak also allows you to determine which candidate to support. Don’t forget to fact check both candidates after the debate so you don’t fall into the trap of blindly believing everything they say!

Hopefully these few tips can help you decide who to vote for and help you on the way to the election!
