Eight Great Chick Flicks

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at TCNJ chapter.

It was hard to narrow down the best chick flicks, but here are eight every girl should see (or at least know about)!  Additional must-see movies are Remember Me, Gone with the Wind, Legally Blonde, You’ve got Mail and Pride and Prejudice.

8. Dirty Dancing- The music, the moves. This movie outlasts the sands of time and will make you want to get up and dance!

7. Leap Year- This flick stars Amy Adams who is mainly known for her role in Enchanted.  This movie seems to be a bit under the radar, but nonetheless is fantastic. Adams portrays a young woman who decides that after her long-term relationship with her charming doctor boyfriend, she is going to propose to him. Naturally, nothing goes as planned, and she gets very lost along the way, only to find true love where she doesn’t expect it. Extra perk is the Irish actor who plays across from her.

6. 10 Things I Hate About You Loosely based on Shakespeare’s writings, this movie will lift up your spirits while the characters are trotting on each other’s emotions.

5. The HolidayThis movie is jam packed with great actors and actresses such as Kate Winslet and Cameron Diaz. It also makes you yearn to go abroad and experience a difference lifestyle.  Diaz’s relationship is a bit steamier (well, she is with Jude Law…) while Winslet’s is lighthearted and endearing.

4. 13 Going On 30 Jennifer Garner stars as the grown-up thirteen-year-old girl who realizes that having everything you wish for might not mean having everything. A relatable story with good morals.

3. How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days- I already love Kate Hudson but after she gives her boyfriend the “love fern” you can’t help but love her even more.  Packed with humor that will have you laughing until the very end, this movie is a great mood-booster for any night.

2. The Notebook The original that set off a whirlwind of Nicholas Sparks fans running to the bookstore, not just to read his books, but to see other movies based on his works.  This is the first of the many movie romances that set expectations incredibly high for guys.

1.  When Harry Met Sally I know, I know. It’s been a little while since this one first came out, but it’s a classic. Billy Crystal is laugh-out-loud hilarious, and Meg Ryan is adorable as Sally. You cannot watch a better chick flick than this.
