Living in a dorm room can seem hard at first, but these hacks will make dorm living a breeze. Everyone may know the classic trick of putting your iPhone in a cup to make a speaker, and that you can make (almost) anything in a microwave. But these eight unconventional ideas are bound to make your floor mates jealous, as you live luxuriously in a place that otherwise resembles a white-walled jail cell.

1. Tie An Air Freshener To The Fan

Things we’ve learned in college this year: Dorm rooms are hot & smelly. Kill two birds with one stone and make your new home smell like lavender, vanilla, or fresh linen instantly.

2. Use A Binder Clip As Key/Phone Holder (Part 1)

I believe that binder clips are the most versatile invention of all time. Clip onto anything (like a bed post,) and it will instantly become a key ring holder and a spot for your phone to sit while charging. Brilliant.

3. Use A Binder Clip As Phone Holder (Part 2)

To further prove my infatuation with binder clips, they can also be used to hold your phone upright on your desk. FaceTime calls are now hands-free and 10x easier!

4. Use The Ladder As A Towel Rack

If you’re in a double and choose to not bunk your beds, that extra ladder can be a real eyesore in the room. Why not put it next to the sink as a towel rack? Problem solved.

5. Storage: It’s Not Your Clothes. It’s YOU

Not enough room in your dresser for all of your t-shirts? Have no fear: folding them vertically will give you more space, and allows your ever-growing collection of TCNJ spirit wear to blossom.

6. Turn A Normal Hanger Into Infinite Scarf Storage

Fall and winter are just around the corner, so it’s natural to bring about 100 scarves to college… right? Use shower curtain rings to hang them all. Limited storage doesn’t have to mean limited scarves!

7. Use Bread Ties As Cord Labels

Solve that mixed up mess of cords under your desk by designating a color (or writing a word) for each device. This will save you from having to reset your clock every time you accidently unplug it.

8. Late Night Snack? Dunk Cookies in Milk (Without a Glass)

It might not seem like a life hack at first glance, but it’s all about the conventions of where and how you dunk that make all the difference. Pretty sweet, huh?
