7 Reasons Why Thanksgiving is the Greatest Holiday of the Year

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at TCNJ chapter.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year — November! Sure, Halloweekend is a blast and everyone looks forward to Christmas time, but let’s give one amazing holiday some credit where it’s surely due, Thanksgiving. Here are 7 reasons why Thanksgiving is the greatest holiday of the year.

Endless amounts of food:

Coming home from school to a real meal is the most amazing feeling. Which is exactly why, on late nights while eating Sour Patch Kids for dinner, I daydream of a Thanksgiving meal. That mass amount of food only comes once a year and it’s important to to treasure it

The only “comfy clothes” holiday

One of the perks of Thanksgiving is throwing on my coziest sweater and leggings and walking downstairs into the kitchen for the rest of the day.

Having leftovers, duh

Going off of eating Thanksgiving dinner, even better is eating it again and again in my dorm room. Those buttery mashed potatoes are delicious, even in my microwave.

Bringing family together

With families spread out all across the state, holidays are some of the only times to reconnect with all of them. Spending time eating and enjoying the day with my family is a favorite part of Thanksgiving even though the charming, “Any boys?” question is sure to come up.

Black Friday shopping!

Possibly the greatest perk to the Thanksgiving weekend is that the fun doesn’t stop after Thursday. Get ready to gather coupons and hit the mall for Black Friday afterwards.

Pecan pie

I felt as though this delicacy needed its own section.

Taking a moment to be thankful

The reason why we gather, which can be easily forgotten in the chaos of dinner and Black Friday shopping is to make sure we are thankful for our blessings. It is a special moment to sit with family at the table and reflect on what we have to be thankful for. Each year, my family has me lead in with what I’m thankful for, and it amazes me all of the things I have to list. Stay humble and kind, and take your moments to give thanks.
