In a world full of distractions and stress, it can be difficult to remember to make yourself a priority. We all have busy schedules and forget to pencil in some time for self-care. These are 5 simple ways to care for yourself that you can easily fit into your schedule.

  1. Keep a Journal

Journaling is a great way to release all of your thoughts and emotions that you might not otherwise voice out loud. Doing so can be extremely therapeutic, especially if you don’t have anyone else to talk to. You can write down exactly what you’re thinking unfiltered and without fear that someone else will judge you. Journals are also great to look back on years later to see how you’ve grown and changed as a person.

  1. Develop a Skincare Routine

Having and following a skincare routine every single morning helps me feel refreshed and ready to face the day. As someone who loves to wear makeup every day, I’ve found that it’s important to take care of your skin. Some products I love to involve in my routine are a spin brush, cleanser, toner, moisturizer, and face mask. Skincare is all about finding products that work for you so take the time to learn about your skin and try out different products.

  1. Set a time to log off of socials for the day

We tend to tell ourselves that we don’t need Instagram and that we could log off whenever if we really wanted to. But the truth is that it’s very easy to get sucked into social media platforms and we can spend hours every day scrolling through our feeds. Setting a time at some point in the day to log off is a great way to escape the insecurities we may feel when looking at those apps. I recommend making the cut off at night so can use that time for journaling and a distraction-free bedtime routine. I promise that it will clear your head and allow you to fall asleep much faster.

  1. Write affirmations

As cheesy as it may sound, the more you tell yourself something, the more you will start to believe it’s true. All you need to do is write down phrases such as “You are enough” and “You are beautiful and loved” on sticky notes, and place them all around your living space. Make sure to put them in places that you’re sure to see them on a daily basis such as a mirror, refrigerator, or nightstand.

  1. Get some fresh air

This is a simple step that can be done in so many different ways. You can take a drive with the windows down, sit on a front porch or balcony and read, take a walk around your neighborhood or even just simply take a step out of your door to take a deep breath. Between the stress of schoolwork, social life, work, and extracurricular activities we hardly remember to take a minute to breathe. Making some time to enjoy nature is a sure way to lift your spirits and bring you a sense of serenity.
