I’m not usually a romance book kind of gal. However, when it comes to Chris Evans, I am all in.

Like most of my current reads, I saw a BookTok recommendation for Elissa Sussman’s most recent book – Funny You Should Ask.

For context, this book was inspired by Edith Zimmerman’s profile of Chris Evans in GQ. You have to check that article out if you have not read it. Every fan dreams of spending time with a celebrity like Chris Evans. Still, it is almost unreal what occurred while Zimmerman tried to write this profile.

Sussman did a fantastic job recreating the events in the interview to the point that you were also there. There were times I started smiling while reading. Sometimes it even felt like Gabe–because she couldn’t actually use Chris Evan’s name–was flirting with me.

One thing that really stood out, but also not uncommon, was the dual timeline that the main character, Chani, uses to tell the story of the interview. As a reader, you can experience the past, present, and future all while picturing Chris Evan as your love interest.

To be clear, this is not a groundbreaking book that will move you to change your life. But, it is so simple and fits the friends to strangers to lovers troupe that it is so rewarding.

I didn’t need to know more before picking up a copy. I am sold if it involves Chris Evans (or his dog). So if you are looking for your next romance read or want to read this for Chris Evans (how many times can I add his name?), I highly recommend it!
