You kept me like a secret, but I kept you like an oath.

I can’t forgive you.

Because every time I said

“I really, really, really

like you,”

I was really saying

“I’m going to fall so deeply

In love with you that

I’ll finally be able

To understand love songs

And poems and,

those cheesy movies

I watched when

I was 13 years old and hurt.”

I was really saying

“on the ride home from our

first date, I played

the only Taylor Swift album

that I never understood

and smiled as I sang,

praying that you’d stay long

enough for me to write

the lyrics on your

birthday and anniversary cards.”

I was really saying

“when I met your friends,

they felt like home to me at last,

and I wasn’t scared for once

because they accepted me.

And I wanted to tell them

that I loved you,

that I was falling deeply

and strongly

and endlessly.”

But instead, I told them

“I really, really, really

like you.”
