He’s confident.
She’s arrogant.
He’s sympathetic.
She’s too empathetic.
What a diligent worker.
She could smile more.
.
Week after week, extra work is thrust upon her.
And he, he does the bare minimum yet receives praise.
She rages at the injustice, inwardly simmering at the blatant discrimination.
Yet when she tries to explain her struggles, she is laughed off,
Told that she is misinterpreting the situation,
Or worse, she is casually informed that this is the way the world works.
.
Again and again, she is passed over and undervalued.
And it’s frustrating!
But the promotion… if she keeps on exceeding the goals and doing the extra work and putting in the overtime–undeniably going above and beyond–maybe, just maybe, she’ll get the promotion.
So she trudges on, waiting for her work to be recognized.
