If you want something simple but still cute, try putting your own spin on a classic Halloween costume. These costumes are easy to put together while still letting you make the look your own.
- Cowgirl – Find your favorite jeans or denim shorts, a cute top, boots, and a cowboy hat. You can also coordinate with your friends for a fun group costume.
- Devil – A red or black outfit paired with devil horns is an easy option for a Halloween party. Add red makeup or fun accessories to make the costume stand out.
- Angel – Put together a white outfit with angel wings and a halo for a cute and simple costume. You can also do a group costume with friends by having some dress as angels and others as devils.
- Cat – Cat ears, a black outfit, and simple makeup can make an easy costume when you are running out of time.
- Fairy – Add wings, a cute dress or skirt, and sparkly makeup for a fun costume that can be as simple or detailed as you want.
Easy Last-Minute Costumes You Can Create
If Halloween is coming up and you still have nothing to wear, don’t panic. Plenty of costumes use clothes and accessories you probably already have in your closet.
- Tourist – Grab a Hawaiian shirt, shorts, sunglasses, and a camera or phone. Add a map or fanny pack to make the costume even more recognizable.
- Athlete – Wear a jersey, athletic shorts, sneakers, and your favorite sports accessories. This is especially easy if you already have a jersey from your university’s team.
- College Student – Lean into the college aesthetic with a school sweatshirt, leggings or shorts, a backpack, and a coffee cup.
- Biker – Put together a black outfit with boots, sunglasses, and a leather jacket or faux-leather accessories.
- Barbie – Wear your favorite pink outfit and add fun accessories to create your own version of Barbie.

- Pick a decade and have everyone create their own outfit.
- Choose a theme, such as superheroes, fairies, cowgirls, or villains.
- Have everyone dress as a different celebrity or pop culture icon.
When You Really Have No Idea What to Wear
If you are completely out of ideas, start with your closet, or even your friend’s closet. You don’t need to buy an entirely new outfit to have a good Halloween costume. Look at the clothes, shoes, accessories, and makeup you already have and think about what character or theme you could create from them. For example, I have thrown together a zombie costume using green pants, a green crop top, and a ton of makeup.
Lastly, Pinterest, TikTok, and Instagram can also be great places to find inspo, especially if you need makeup tips or ideas for where to buy your costume pieces. You can also ask your friends what they are dressing up as. You might find an idea you love, or you could coordinate your costumes together.
