What the Best Flavor of La Croix REALLY Is

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at TAMU chapter.

La Croix has captured the hearts of many but also has developed a community that is very anti-La Croix. The flavored sparkling water drink has been the butt of the joke on Twitter for a hot minute, but now the La Croix conversations seemed to have stopped. I’m here to get my girl, La Croix, back into the game and find out which flavor is the best.

For all intents and purposes, I have decided to stick with the 14 original flavors and not the newer Cúrate flavors. I will also be using the Pure flavor and regular water as a palate cleanser for in between flavors.

I will be rating each flavor using these criteria and a scale from 1-5 for each:

  • Sip-ability

  • How true the flavor is

  • Was it an enjoyable drinking experience?

  • Overall rating

  • Sip-ability: 3.5

  • How true the flavor is: I didn’t get the original carbonated water flavor, which is usually nothing…This one was almost salty?? I can’t put my finger on it, but if I’m being real, Topo Chico’s original carbonated water is better.

  • Was it enjoyable: Yes – Refreshing because it had a more subdued crisp than other sparkling waters. Just something to switch it up.

  • Overall rating: 3.5

  • Sip-ability: 4
  • How true the flavor is: I was really surprised at how true to flavor this one was. I smelled it when I first cracked it open, and it smelled like shampoo, so I was slightly concerned. This one honestly tasted like a candle but in a good way? I’m not the biggest coconut fan, so I probably wouldn’t pick this one as my favorite.
  • Was it enjoyable: Yes – Nice smell and strong flavor. Reminds me of the beach.

  • Overall rating: 3.5

  • Sip-ability: 5

  • How true the flavor is: This one is very artificial tasting, but was really nostalgic for me because it tasted like a more adult version of Sunkist.

  • Was it enjoyable: Yes, I would definitely buy this again, and I really liked it

  • Overall rating: 5

  • Sip-ability: 5

  • How true the flavor is: I love key lime and this was exactly what I was expecting. It tastes just like key lime pie (minus the crust), and it was so yummy. It was also really sweet and I don’t know how La Croix did that because they claim to have 0 sugar in their drinks. Sus, but I’m not mad at her.

  • Was it enjoyable: Yes! I would definitely drink more.

  • Overall rating: 4.5

  • Sip-ability: 1

  • How true the flavor is: I was hesitant to trust this one because of its fancy name when it’s really just freakin’ grapefruit. Sadly, I was right. Don’t trust her. This one tasted like soap I would use at my grandma’s house, and the taste lingered in my mouth after. I did not appreciate this one. Disappointed, but not surprised.

  • Was it enjoyable: Personally, I didn’t have an enjoyable drinking experience with this boujee grapefruit.

  • Overall rating: 1

  • Sip-ability: 5
  • How true the flavor is: I didn’t really smell anything when I gave it a lil’ sniff, but I was pleasantly surprised by the flavor! It was super lemony, but not in an overwhelming way.
  • Was it enjoyable: Yes, I really loved this one, and I plan on buying it again in the future.

  • Overall rating: 5

  • Sip-ability: 4.5
  • How true the flavor is: It doesn’t really taste like mango, and I have no clue what it tastes like, but I like it. It’s one of those flavors that makes you wanna keep drinking it because it’s so good.

  • Was it enjoyable: Yes! Mango has always been one of my favorite flavors of La Croix, and I’m going to keep buying them.

  • Overall rating: 4.5

  • Sip-ability: 4.5

  • How true the flavor is: This one really confused me. It smells like a peach so you’re like “Oh ok, I’m about to take a trip to Peach City,” but it tastes like a straight up pear. I didn’t even know pear could be made into drinks because I had never heard of any pear drinks before this.

  • Was it enjoyable: Although I was surprised by the whole thing, I really liked this one, and I would drink it again!

  • Overall rating: 4.5

  • Sip-ability: 3

  • How true the flavor is: I was super let down after smelling this one. It smells JUST like those little Cutie tangerines, but it doesn’t taste like a tangerine at all. It’s not a bad taste, but I was expecting a tasty little Cutie and I didn’t get that.

  • Was it enjoyable: I was let down, but I still liked it so sorta? I don’t know if I would buy this one again, but if someone offered it to me I would take it.

  • Overall rating: 2.5

  • Sip-ability: 4

  • How true the flavor is: I really like passionfruit, and I could tell that there was some of that flavor there. It honestly just tasted like fruit if that’s possible?

  • Was it enjoyable: I enjoyed it, but it didn’t really stand out compared to some of the other flavors.

  • Overall rating: 3.5

  • Sip-ability: 1

  • How true the flavor is: I honestly don’t even know what cranberry tastes like, but I know this one doesn’t taste like raspberry at all. This one just reminded me of nasty medicine you would take when you were sick as a kid.

  • Was it enjoyable: No, it reminded me of my mom holding me down and hitting me with a chancla to make me take cough syrup.

  • Overall rating: 1

  • Sip-ability: 4

  • How true the flavor is: This was one was really true to flavor and tastes like you took regular sparkling water and just squeezed lime into it. Although it was true to flavor, it didn’t really “wow” me.

  • Was it enjoyable: I enjoyed it, and it’s a solid flavor, but it wasn’t anything special.

  • Overall rating: 4

  • Sip-ability: 2

  • How true the flavor is: Which berry is this?? It didn’t taste like much, but the slight taste it did have was really weird. It was ok, but I probably wouldn’t buy this one.

  • Was it enjoyable: It was truly ~ight~.

  • Overall rating: 2

  • Sip-ability: 4.5

  • How true the flavor is: It tasted like an apricot, but the more you drink it, the more it starts to taste like “generic orange fruit” if that makes sense.

  • Was it enjoyable: I enjoyed it, and I would definitely drink this again!

  • Overall rating: 4.5

After trying all fourteen flavors, I have come to the conclusion that Peach-Pear is the best flavor of La Croix. You may be surprised, but trust me, I know this is the right choice. All of the other flavors are good, but none of them stand out like this one. The Peach-Pear flavor takes you on a freakin’ ride, and it is truly a fabulous drinking experience. The aromatic peach smell lingers in your nose when you give it a lil’ sniff… and then the pear taste comes in, and the two blend so nicely. I highly recommend trying this flavor if you haven’t because it is awesome and stands out from the rest of the flavors!
