Friendsgiving has become a fun, popular tradition among college students, and one of my favorite parts of the fall season. It is a great way to bring friends together and create sweet memories. So, if you want to host this season but don’t know where to start, let me help! Here’s a friendly step-by-step guide to hosting the perfect Friendsgiving.

1. Invitation and Guest List

The first step is to create a guest list and send out invitations. Websites like Canva are great for creating invitations that set the vibe. Partiful is also a great tool for managing your RSVPs and event details.

2. Decorations

Next, you’ll want to create a warm, welcoming space for your guests. Of course, Pinterest is the best app for finding inspiration. I encourage you to visit your local thrift stores for affordable and unique finds. Stores like TJMaxx and HomeGoods also offer plenty of fall-themed decorations that won’t break the bank. Below is a short list to help you get started!

  • Tablecloths (Fall colors, gingham prints, or lace tablecloths)
  • Candles/Candle Holders
  • Vases (Flowers like Baby’s Breath are inexpensive and always fit the vibe)
  • Mini Pumpkins (Super easy centerpieces and perfect for the fall theme)
  • Streamers/Banner (Great for creating a cute backdrop for pictures)

3. Food

You’ll want to have an amazing meal, but don’t put it all on yourself. One of the best parts of Friendsgiving is including your friends in the cooking! I suggest asking your guests to sign up for dishes as they RSVP. Sometimes creating categories can be helpful for having a variety of food and avoiding the risk of people bringing the same dish.

For example:

  • Appetizers (Fruit/veggie tray, chips and dip, or charcuterie board)
  • Main Dish (Turkey, rotisserie chicken, pasta, or a casserole)
  • Sides (Mac & cheese, mashed potatoes, stuffing, or rolls)
  • Desserts (Pie, cookies, or brownies)
  • Drinks (Soda, tea, or festive drinks)

Encourage everyone to bring their favorite recipes to make it more fun!

4. Music/Games

Now that everything else is planned, you’ll want some entertainment for your party. Music and games are a great way to start.

  • Create a shared playlist (Helpful for setting the vibe and allowing everyone to be included)
  • Gratitude games (Allowing everyone to share or write who/what they’re grateful for)
  • Card/Board games
  • Movies

Remember, Friendsgiving is all about being together, so cater it towards the people who make it so special. It can be as simple or extravagant as you would like. Have fun hosting, and wishing you a season full of gratitude, good food, and even better memories!
