We all know Valentine’s Day as a special time to take out your significant other, friends, or even family out for the day. Although if you ask me, who wants to wait in line for hours to get a table at a restaurant or have to eat insanely expensive movie snacks as you crane your head up because the last seats in a theater are the front row? Look no more. Because here are some fun and special ways to spend the day!

1. Cook a nice meal

Instead of waiting in line for dinner and busting your wallet, make a nice dinner! This is a fun way to make dinner with your special someone and not only will the food be made but, as we all know, nothing tastes better than a meal you made yourself or made for you.

2.movie night!

When you can’t make it to the movies or there are no tickets available for a show just bring the movies to you! Make sure to make yourself and your significant other comfortable with a nice blanket and watch any genre you’d like! Don’t have access to a streaming service? You can always get a 7 day subscription toon with … or …. Not only do you have access to a cozy movie, but you could also bundle up with your favorite snacks!

Also, for those with access to a student ID, anyone can rent a movie or series from the Library Annex’s massive and unique collection. You only need to simply return the movie or series within 7 days!

3. Fun picnic

Make a charcuterie board with your favorite cheeses and accompany it with your favorite wine, or perhaps you are in the mood for some sushi and tiramisu; the options are endless when it comes to a picnic.

4. Bake and make sweet treats

Although a little more labor intensive, it can be quite a fun and messy bonding moment to attempt to bake something together or for each other. Even if they don’t come out terrific you can still have lots of fun!

5. Have a lazy day!

Sometimes, the best of times doesn’t require a nice fancy restaurant or having to get dressed, it’s about enjoying the day with a love one. With how hectic life can be, especially for college students, sometimes there is nothing more romantic than being lazy with another.

Despite the reputation of Valentine’s Day as a commercial holiday, there are plenty of ways to bring cheer and love to those around you – or even yourself – without draining an already drained college students wallet.
