COLLEGE STATION, Oct.12,2022 – The place where the Brazos Valley Meals on Wheels has called home for the last 40 years is at risk of being sold. If the building is in fact sold, Meals on Wheels would only have 60 days to vacate the property.

The Meals on Wheels Program Director Ken Barnes, emphasizes the importance of the services Meals on Wheels program offers. The property owners have made the decision to sell the property, which leaves Meals on Wheels in a bind to stay afloat. He is calling out to the community for assistance by kicking off a fundraiser with the assistance of Dave South, the retired Texas A&M sports announcer.

Meals on Wheels serves the seniors within the community by having volunteers deliver meals each week to Brazos and some surrounding counties. They also support the community by checking in with the community and bringing them extra supplies “We are the only people that these people see,” Barnes said. “It’s not only the meals but we’re doing a check on them to make sure everything is alright. There are also other things that they may need, extra supplies that we can take them as well.”

Some efforts have been made to save Meals on Wheels. Brazos County Commissioners are considering allocating funds toward a facility, but that could take years. Barnes said that they won’t be able to sustain those years.  They are still working out a contingency plan. If anyone is interested in assisting, please contact Ken Barnes at 979-823-2203.
