My top 5 comfort shows

As we get further into the semester, it’s easy to get overwhelmed with assignments and the stresses of everyday life. If you’re anything like me, you put on a show or a movie in the background to study. Here are my top 5 comfort shows for stressful times, or to wind down with.

1. The Office

This one is a classic. Dumb humor with many strong backing storylines creates the best TV show to ever be produced. Mainly following a pseudo-office and the workers on mundane tasks, we fall in love with the setting. My favorite character must be Pam, the office receptionist. She’s given a beautiful arc that includes success, heartbreak, love, and failure.

2. GLee

It’s a bit different with its approach, but still wonderful. I know this isn’t everyone’s favorite, but it’s easy to laugh at and fall in love with. Also, there’s so much happening in every episode, which is confusing but entertaining. It’s about a glee club at a high school where the teacher is an absolute maniac, and the students are insane. That’s what makes it interesting at least.

3. iCarly

A little embarrassing to admit but it’s true. A major part of my childhood was laughing at this show (and genuinely not understanding all of the humor) and wanting a web show too. The show follows Carly and Sam as their online show blows up. My favorite character is probably Nevel, an enemy of Carly. He’s so funny and out-serves everyone on the show.

4. Breaking Bad

A masterpiece disguised in drama. This show defied any of my expectations and kept me interested for all 5 seasons, which is a lot of one-hour episodes. I can still start at any point in the series and know exactly what’s going on in the story. It follows Walter as he enters the drug industry as a way to pay for his cancer treatments. I highly recommend this one if you like dramas.

5. Stranger Things

Probably the most well-known young adult shows. I fall into the masses of people loving this show because of its wonderful and improbable storyline. It’s a modern homage to past sci-fi films while also adding modern and dramatic elements. It follows a group of kids who encounter a dangerous being and a girl who could help them stop it. My favorite character is probably Steve, who represents the older supportive friend, without sacrificing his fun-loving nature. The character development in the show is insane, and the story only gets more interesting over time.
