Meet the Girl That Can Do It All, Ciara Jasso!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at TAMU chapter.

Meet Aggie, Ciara Jasso! Name it, and this girl does it! Involved in many organizations on campus and competing in many Pageants with other girls across the nation, she has got herself a full load and is also going to school here, at Texas A&M. Read our Q&A with her to get to know more about our Campus Celebrity of the week!

HC: Where are you from?

CJ: I was born in Houston and raised in Rosenberg! I currently live in Sugar Land with my parents and my dog, Luke!

HC: What year are you?

CJ: I am technically a Sophomore, class of 2017 (A-A-A-A-A!). However I am ahead on my hours so next semester I will be a junior, and if I am accepted in PPA (professional program of accounting) I will graduate in 2018.

HC: Why did you choose Texas A&M?

CJ: My older sister, Kellie, was the first person in my family to come to A&M. I came on the tour with her in 2006 ( I was in 6th grade), and I fell in love instantly. I’ve known since then that I would come here. It was actually the one and only school that I applied to and I was accepted in early September 2013!

HC: What is your major?

CJ: I am in Mays Business School so it will be something in that area. Right now the plan is to apply for the Professional Program of Accounting, in that case I would get my Bachelors in Accounting ( I know crazy that I like that stuff) and my masters in any other business degree. In my case I would choose Marketing! Although they are completely different, I’m hoping that my Accounting background would set me apart and give me an advantage when looking for marketing jobs. The dream would be to work for the Cowboys or the Yankees, my two favorite teams! (I can already hear the horse laughs)

HC: Tell us a little bit about what you are involved in at Texas A&M, and also aside from Texas A&M.

CJ: I am definitely a busy bee! I am involved in a total of 5 organizations. I am a member of Gamma Phi Beta, Aggie Replant, Aggie Hostesses, Lambda Sigma Sophomore Leadership and Honor Society, and I Lead Maroon. Aggie Replant is an SGA organization that was originally formed to counteract the effects of bonfire (cutting down trees) by replanting them around BCS.I absolutely love being outdoors and have an obsession with trees so this was right up my ally! (Fun Fact: I met my Big, Kat, at my first meeting) Lambda Sigma is a sophomore service organization that really focuses on giving back to the community. Our main project throughout this year is tutoring different grade levels in BCS. I Lead Maroon is a leadership organization I just joined that has us complete a specific number of leadership related conferences, workshops, and events as well as journal about them. When you finish you are inducted into the Maroon and White society which I am very excited about!

HC: What is your favorite thing about being in a sorority?

CJ: Well first off, I am always shocked by how much I love being in the Gamma Phi Beta sisterhood because I always said I would never go through recruitment. My mom was actually the one to encourage me to give it a try and as usual she was right! My favorite part about my sorority is our philanthropy: Building strong girls. We work with organizations that help raise the self esteem and confidence of young girls and teach them how to live a healthy lifestyle both socially and physically. I also love our motto: Inspiring the highest type of womanhood. This organization has helped me become the type of young woman I always imagined myself to be. It has given me so many chances to show my leadership skills and help raise money for a good cause, specifically Girls on the Run. In general however, I love that greek life offers young women the chance to build life long connections and friendships and last long after college. You never know where your sororities network will lead you!

HC: How exciting is it to be an Aggie Hostess and watch all the football games right there on the field?

CJ: I cannot say enough about how lucky I am to be an Aggie Hostess! My older sister , Kellie, was actually a Hostess when she was here so since the 8th grade I have been waiting for the chance to be a part of this organization on my own merit. When I got accepted last semester I called my sister and pretended I didn’t make it (lol) she wasn’t happy.
And yes it is extremely exciting getting to be on the field before and after games and work with the football program through out the year. Last semester alone I was able to attend Johnny & Mike’s pro day and had the chance to meet former President George H.W. Bush! It so awesome to work with the program to make sure the recruits have a great experience here and hopefully commit! And when they do all of the Hostesses are very proud! The games specifically are very exciting! We actually sit on the 1st deck of the alumni side, which is so nice! Aggie Hostesses has given me so many one of kind experiences and opportunities that I would never be able to have any other way. For example, last night at the Ole Miss game I got to meet JJ Watt! I mean come on, it doesn’t get much cooler than that.

HC: Tell us about your involvement with pageants: When did you start? How many you have done? What kind of titles have you won? What can you tell us about the competition?

CJ: I actually did my very first pageant at the age of 10! I had seen my family friend compete in Miss Houston Teen USA and shortly after I competed in Little Miss Hawaiian Topic. It was in the middle of a mall and I placed third. To sum it up I was not happy! (My dad gave my a very competitive spirit) So I entered another in San Antonio and I won! That gave me an opportunity to work with Premiere Promotions and Page Parks modeling agency. I did a few commercials and print advertisement and that led me to compete in the Miss USA system – this does not have a talent portion and is the system that Donald Trump owns, which leads to Miss Universe. I competed for two years as a “teen” (15-18) and my greatest accomplishment was placing 1st Runner Up at Miss Texas Teen USA out of 101 girls. I then took a year off for college and this past June competed in my first “Miss” pageant (19-26). I placed 1st Runner Up and was the Swimsuit Winner at Miss Austin USA, which allowed me to compete at Miss Texas USA this summer as Miss Capital of Texas. I placed in the Top 15 out of 114 young women. I was so excited to be considered a top competitor in one of the hardest states along side women I have admired for years! These past four years competing in the “big leagues” has given me the chance to grow and change in so many wonderful ways. It is mentally, physically, and emotionally exhausting to compete and has toughened me up for the real world. The interview process has given me an ease in conversation I never had before, as well as the ability to talk to anyone I encounter. The swimsuit portion of competition has showed me a healthy way to eat and train my body in the best way possible. These experiences have given me friends and colleagues all over the nation and expanded my network farther than I ever thought possible.

HC: Who is your role model? (celebrity and non-celebrity)

CJ: This question is always so difficult for me because so many people influence your life that it is hard to choose just one! Non-Celebrity would probably be my sister. She has always paved the road for me and I admire that she’s an extremely hard worker! She is always positive (unless she’s hungry) and loves Harry Potter, Friends, and Disney as much as I do! And she is a crazy good artist!!
Celebrity is probably Gaby Douglass. First of all I always wanted to be gymnast so I’m partially just jealous I’m not her teammate! But I watched her movie about her journey and it was refreshing to learn of someone so successful that had a moment of weakness and wanted to quit. You don’t usually hear that side of the champions, but I thought it just showed that even though its hard you keep going if its something that you love. I also love that her mom was headstrong and refused to let her quit! Another example of how mom is always right. ;)

HC: And since Halloween is coming up, what do you plan on dressing up as?

CJ: Well I’ve been told I look like Ariana Grande before so on Friday I am going as her! I thought it would be pretty easy because her signature thing is her half up half down hair style. And on Saturday my best friend from high school, Tiara, is coming to town and we are going to be Mario and Luigi! That was our favorite game to play on WII back when we actually had the spare time.

HC: Anything else you want to tell us about yourself?

CJ: Fun Facts- I DON’T have my ears pierced! My sister, great grandpa, and I have the same birthday! I have a half moon beta fish named Apollo. My favorite color is purple, my favorite animal is a penguin, and my favorite candy is Millionaire Chocolate Turtles! I am obsessed with Harry Potter and Friends! Disney is life. Oh, and I also played softball from the age of 6-17 and my dad was my coach!
