The Struggle is real.

For anyone who is in the challenging stages of trying to grow out your pixie cut, I think you can agree when I say the transition is crazy long. From uneven bangs, to indecisive cowlicks, random wisps, and multiple layers, there’s no “right” way on how to grow out a pixie. You simply have to go with the flow and learn to work with what you got.

  1. Bobby Pins Are A Life Saver

If you are in a rush, or are just feeling lazy about doing your hair, bobby pins are the perfect solution. It helps keep your hair in place and keeps stray hairs secured when it’s too windy outside. Merely just section your hair the way you want it and secure it with a pin. My go-to look was twisting my hair away from my face. The best thing too is that you can set those bobby pins in ways where it looks like a cool design.

2. Mini Flat Irons Are A Must

I’ve had my mini flat iron for as long as I can remember, but that was also when I had my hair past my shoulders, so there wasn’t much use for it then. I’m glad I kept it all these years because it has become a saving grace in quick and easy styling. Regular size flat irons, I realized, when trying to use with short hair just doesn’t work. If anything, it’s a safety hazard. The mini tool helps tremendously when it comes to styling near your face. It allows easy access to hard-to-reach places to help prevent accidental burnings, and you can take it everywhere!

3. Water Period.

Something I learned over the years is that you don’t need a fancy hair stylist in order to have a nice up-do; you just need some well-needed shut-eye. Some nights I’ll be going to sleep looking like myself, then the next morning I wake up looking like young John Travolta. Water became my best friend. Living with a growing pixie cut is like predicting the future; you never know what’s going to happen. Luckily, you don’t need much with the help of water. Just add some in the places that are bothering you, then boom! It goes right back into place, or at least better than before.

4. Volumize, Volumize, Volumize!

Although water may be the effortless way to go, you need to add some volume into your routine. One thing I used to hate about having long hair was the hair products. I used to buy so many useless products that never made a huge contrast to my hair, and the money just went to waste while my hair continued to look like a matted rug. When I was desperate to make some difference to my hair appearance, spray wax and dry shampoo came to the rescue. Just swiftly tousle your hair with your fingers, and you’re good to go.

5. Work Those Headbands and Bandanas

Worst case scenario, if you’re having a bad hair day, but don’t feel like doing it, just throw on a headband or bandana and call it a day. It will add a little flare to your outfit. And in the winter, have a beanie on stand by.
