PSA: Not everything has to be glow-ups and grinding! Winter is for the soft-girl lifestyle, especially when half of your day is spent in the dark. So instead of the whole “New Year, New Me” overhaul, why not soft-launch the reset now in some more manageable and low-commitment ways that’ll have you ready to start the new year right!
1. The One-Drawer Declutter – Cleaning and Decluttering actually doesn’t have to be a whole weekend event! Take 10 minutes and pick one SMALL area to focus on, and do that every day, working through the different parts of your home that get a bit neglected.
2. Digital Decultter – Delete old apps you don’t use, unsubscribe from spam, delete the in-class pics during lectures, and random screenshots that are taking up space on your phone! You could also get a new phone case or change up your lockscreen.
3. Swap your scent – Use your scents to shift your energy and vibes for the day or for the season.
4. Enjoying my rent – This means focusing on sleeping earlier, which isn’t exactly difficult since it gets dark at 4:30, and having more fun nights IN!
5. Doing my makeup for fun – Don’t know when life got so serious that I stopped trying new eye looks or hairstyles, but we are so back y’all!! It’s such a fun, creative outlet!
6. Good brain rot – Replacing TikTok and Instagram with Pinterest, Substack, Duolingo, and Goodreads.
7. Buying Flowers! – Doesn’t have to be a $30 bouquet, just a couple of the $5 bunches at the grocery store every week or so makes my space so much more girly and cute.
8. Cleaning out my bags! – Backpacks, totes, and purses will be gone through, emptied, and wiped down/washed, cause trust me… they need it! Bonus points if this is your 10-minute cleaning sesh for the day ;)
9. Donate some clothes – Literally pick just five things to either donate/sell – more if you want to, though – and free up some space in what I know is an otherwise overstuffed closet hehe.
10. Mini Beauty Reset – If you really have some time and are feeling productive, go through your vanity! Start with cleaning makeup brushes, tossing expired products, and wiping the foundation and blush that’ve exploded all over the other products in your makeup bag. Don’t underestimate the difference it’ll make the next time you sit down to get ready!
11. Get that coffee! – Life is hard enough if that coffee is gonna get me through it, who am I to say “no”? In reality, the idea is more about not feeling bad when you get that treat, because you deserve one!
12. Water before Coffee! – I need to drink more water in general, so why not start at the top of the day?
13. Look forward to that one thing! – To me, January gives the same energy as Sunday scaries, so planning one fun thing to look forward to feels like a good move. That could be lunch with a friend you haven’t seen in a while, a vacation, or a fun purchase you’ve been thinking about for a while.
