Spooky season is finally here, and I could not be more excited!

Halloween, just like everything else, promises to be a little different this year. Many of us will not get to go trick-or-treating, and if we do, a surgical mask will most likely be part of our costume, and a bottle of hand sanitizer, part of our basket. But we must not let these changes ruin our spirit. There are still so many things you can do this October to have a terrific time without compromising your and other people’s health.

What do you need? Not much, just a couch, a TV or laptop, a small group of friends, and candy, lots and lots of them! OK… maybe a toothbrush and maximum-strength toothpaste, too. Remember, we don’t want to compromise our health, and cavities, just like witches and monsters, are incredibly common this season.

Don’t know what to watch? Don’t worry, I, in collaboration with two of my friends, made the perfect list of horror movies for you!

Are you ready? Here it comes.

Insidious (I and II) (2010 and 2013)

This is hands-down one of my all-time favorite horror movies. To be honest, I have never been a big fan of gory movies. I prefer those with paranormal events, ghosts, and lots of jump-scares. If you, like me, can’t watch bloody scenes without feeling sick, then both of these movies are perfect for you.

The Ring (2002)

This one is such a classic. I remember watching this movie when I was younger and not wanting to get anywhere closer than five meters to my TV. A little girl wearing a white nightgown, face fully covered, a deep well, an old videotape, and a mysterious call? Seriously, how could it get any scarier?

The Orphanage (2007)

Uff… I get chills just thinking about this movie! I mean it, it took me three attempts to finish watching it. Not only was this movie produced with the help of Guillermo del Toro, known for directing Pan’s Labyrinth and Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, but it has one of the creepiest storylines ever. The setting, the characters, and even the background music make of this film one you won’t want to miss.

Hereditary (2008)

Hereditary has one of the goriest scenes I have ever seen. That is it. That is all I am going to say about this movie. Otherwise, I’ll have to picture it all over again and will not be able to finish this article.

Orphan (2009)

Ok… this movie is for sure one of the creepiest you’ll find on this list, not only because of the multiple gory scenes it contains but rather the dark secret it hides. What secret? Oh… nothing major, you know, just that IT WAS BASED ON A TRUE STORY! So, if you decide to watch it, just keep that little fact in mind for the full Halloween experience.

This is it for part one of this article. Next week, I’ll talk about the last five movies on the list, and trust me, they are amazing. So, stay tuned!

Thank you for reading. Happy almost Halloween!
