For the majority of students on college campuses, homecoming does not have to be explained. It is common knowledge that this is one of the few days of the fall semester you have an excuse to be wasted before noon hits. On these days, students no longer see college pride as ostracizing. This is the day for you get “turnt up” and rep your college to the fullest. Students adorn themselves with beads and put on their war paint in preparation for the football game. So, what do you do if your college doesn’t have a football team? How can there be a homecoming without a football team to play?

Unfortunately, this is the case for us here at the University of Tampa. Luckily, UT’s student government makes sure that we can have the authentic homecoming experience.  An event-filled weekend has been planned, and it happens to include another kind of homecoming sport—the game of fútbol.

Wednesday, Oct. 23- Kick-off

Spartan homecoming weekend starts on Wednesday with the Kick Off event. There will be food vendors & UT gear given away. Members of student organizations will work the runway during the toga pageant.

Thursday, Oct. 24 – Casino Night

Bring your game to the Vaughn Lobby for a night at the casino. Students receive a starting amount of chips that can be distributed to each individual by showing a student I.D. The chips can be used at any of the game tables. After you are finished, if you have left over chips they can be cashed in for raffle tickets. Stick around because prizes will be raffled off throughout the night.

Friday, Oct. 25- Homecoming Parade & Game

5:30 pm- Watch the parade that will circle the campus grounds. Floats will include Spartan student organizations and homecoming royalty. The parade will end at the soccer field.
6:00 pm- Tailgating begins!  Get amped up for the homecoming soccer game. Food, drinks, and prizes will be available for UT students.
7:00pm- Ditch the grills and head over to the stands to support the UT soccer team for the homecoming game. At half time the UT 2013-2014 Homecoming king and queen will be announced on the field.

Saturday, Oct. 26- Spartan Splash

Let the hangover ware off or join fellow students for the Spartan Splash event at the UT pool. There will be snow cones to eat and a water slide!

As you can see my little Spartans, there is nothing to worry about. You will still be able to go all out and throw back the shots. Homecoming will be epic!
