You hear this almost every time a new season or year rolls along. “You should purge your space, declutter! New year, new you!” or something along those lines, but if you’re anything like me you put it on your to-do list, promising yourself that you’ll do it tomorrow but tomorrow never comes… This is why “tomorrow” needs to finally become today.

1. Gratification

The satisfaction and immediate gratification that you would feel when you organize and get rid of everything you don’t need will be so great that it’ll set you up for the year to come.

2. You’ll stop overbuying

If you don’t know what you have or where it is then how are you supposed to stop re-buying the same things! You’ll save money and space!

3. Minimize stress and anxiety

Having a messy space will strain your eyes and either consciously or subconsciously cause unease because you don’t even know what you have or where it is. At times, my home has been so messy that I’ve had to eat standing up because I can’t even find a place to put down my plate! Having a clean environment will provide ease and tranquility. Plus if it’s clean then you don’t need to worry about “Oh I need to clean up because_________”

4. Hidden treasures

Imagine all that you’ve lost in that mess! Finding that old fuzzy purse or your fake I.D.! You can have a little nostalgia session.

5. You’ll just feel better

There’s no other way to put it but cleaning your environment will just leave you feeling better and refreshed.

The list could go on, but I think you get the idea. Decluttering, purging, or just cleaning will leave you feeling like a new person, so why not get to it?
