You’ve reached your weight goal, congratulations! Now what? You celebrate by eating a slice of pizza, perhaps a soda and of course dessert. You remember how good it does to your soul when you eat these things and the next day, you repeat it, because your happiness comes first always, right? YES, your happiness should and will always come first, which is why we should stop addressing the topic as “weight loss” and instead view it as a “side effect.”

Losing weight can be achieved in different ways, some more healthy than others, and some much faster as well. It can be frustrating especially with the infamous social media. As we wrap our heads around the idea of obtaining that model figure, we forget of our genes, our individuality. We are all built differently which is why nobody is the same as another. With that being said, weight loss shouldn’t be about weighing the same as Victoria Secret model Alessandra Ambrosio, or having the abs of Instagram model Alexis Ren; it’s about getting the best body you possibly can while being healthy. Yes, you’ve heard this before I know but here is a thing or two that I learned about weight loss.

1. Healthy eating. Getting rid of pizza and cake will not only get you that body but it will help your skin, your hair, nails, teeth, even your eyes! Vegetables and fruits are not always our to go meal but in the long run, your body will thank you. I found that eating healthy is much more delicious than eating junk food. With the right recipes and ingredients, you’ll find that junk food is something of the past.

2. Exercise. You don’t need to spend hours at the gym to get that desired body, at least 30 minutes a day of activity should be enough. Being active is so easy and there’s a lot of things that can be done if a gym is not your scene. Walking your dog, yoga, go for a run, walk around downtown, play your favorite sport, ride a bike, roller skate, etc.

3. Treat yo self! I know what you’re thinking: wouldn’t that just ruin everything I’ve accomplished? NO! A dessert here and there will not make you gain weight. Obsessing over weight loss is dangerous, and the best way to avoid this obsession is to indulge in your favorite treat once in a while.

4. Do it for yourself. The only person you should be changing yourself for, is yes, yourself! Its all about feeling good in your own skin, and feeling good with how you look. Everyone else’s opinion doesn’t matter because at the end of the day you are your biggest judge.

When you keep these things in mind, weight loss seems less impossible than before. When you do it for yourself and forget about the esthetics you’ll find that weight loss is just a side effect of a healthy lifestyle.
