In 2012, Bob Buckhorn; the Mayor of Tampa Bay announced that they would dye the Hillsborough River green in celebration of St. Patrick’s day and his Irish upbringing.   This has turned into an event every year that is called the Mayor’s River O’Green Fest on St. Patrick’s Day!  This event usually takes place at the Curtis Dixon Waterfront Park where there are an enormous amount of food trucks, beer (I mean its st. pattys day…), bands and activities such as a potato toss and so much more.  The green fun usually begins at the Cass Street Bridge and through the Kennedy Blvd Bridge.

The color is a Kelly green (because that’s the color that represents the Irish culture and st. pattys day) but it also has a tint of yellow dye in it.   There will be 80 pounds of this non-toxic product that is made in Ohio.

This St. Pattys day, the festivities will still take part in Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park and will still have the same games, activities and beer that was included since this celebration begun two years ago.  Come celebrate with the city of Tampa on Saturday, March 15th from 11am-4pm!

St. Pattys day is a day full of fun and beer.  Please be careful when consuming alcoholic beverages as UT does not promote underage drinking. With that being said, be safe and have fun!
