My Top 10 Favorite Taylor Swift lyrics

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Tampa chapter.

Taylor Swift is the songwriter of our decade. Her song lyrics capture all emotions that we all feel, from heartbrokenness to freedom and joy. I picked out my top 10 favorite lyrics from Taylor Swift songs that resonate with my internalized emotions and feelings!

  1. “People throw rocks at the things that shine” from Ours, 2010.

Whenever I feel like I’m being treated poorly by people, I remember these song lyrics. These lyrics remind me that people treat others poorly because of their own internalized issues and to find strength in myself.

  1. “Darling, I’m a nightmare dressed like a daydream” from Blank Space,  2014.

This line will forever be iconic in the Swiftie fandom for obvious reasons.

  1. “Forgetting him was like trying to know somebody you never met” from Red, 2012.

This line captures how hard it is to overcome feelings for an unavailable or past love interest.

4.  “You’ve got a smile that could light up this whole town” from You Belong With Me, 2008.

These lyrics capture the essence of a teenage crush. Not to mention they are so light-hearted and sweet!

5. “2AM, who do you love?” from Enchanted, 2011.

This song is iconic, and these lyrics show the pain of being in love with somebody but being unsure if they love you back. Trust me; we’ve all been there.

6. “Not because he owns me, but ‘cause he really knows me” from Dress, 2017.

Feeling known by a romantic interest is so important. But also having your own sense of self and freedom is equally as essential.

7. “Band-aids don’t fix bullet holes” from Bad Blood, 2014.

From my experience of being betrayed by friends, this song really encaptures the feelings of being hurt within friendships or relationships.

8. “You’re so gorgeous, it actually hurts” from Gorgeous,  2017.

Have you ever seen somebody so attractive that it physically pains you? I know I can relate.

9. “The rest of the world was black and white, but we were in screaming color” from Out Of The Woods, 2014.

This is exactly what it feels like to be in love with somebody who brings out the best in you.

10. “The best people in life are free” New Romantics, 2014

Not only is this my favorite song line of all time, but these are words that I live by.
