I know in my last article, I mentioned some of my favorite nature oases in Tampa Bay. So, to continue my trend of unveiling my gatekept secrets, I give you my top recommendations for a day in Tampa Bay. Whether you’re out with the girls or taking a solo trip, you can find something here for everyone. You just need some friendly guidance.

BOOK + BOTTLE

17 6th St N, St. Petersburg, FL 33701

Located in Downtown St. Pete, Book + Bottle is a combination coffee shop, bar, and bookstore. Looking for some quiet reading time? You got it. Want to have a glass with some friends? Look no further. Need to catch up on schoolwork? They’ve got you. Have the urge to debate over books while partaking in your favorite yarn art? You can do that too every Wednesday from 10 AM – 12 PM. (You might even catch me there.) Check out their website for even more recurring events! https://www.bookandbottlestpete.com/

CRISLIP CAFE

645 Central Ave, St. Petersburg, FL 33701

Across the street from Book + Bottle is another hidden gem tucked away in the Crislip Arcade. Walk into this old-fashioned alleyway and discover a small yet cozy coffee shop featuring numerous signature espresso drinks. Try a dirty iced pumpkin spice chai! You won’t regret it. If you’re in the mood for shopping, take no more than two steps into the in-store boutique filled with tchotchkes perfect for St. Pete fans and cat lovers alike.

TOMBOLO BOOKS & BLACK CROW COFFEE

2153 1st Ave S, St. Petersburg, FL 33712

If you couldn’t already tell, I am very much a caffeine addict and bookworm. Hear me out, though. This combination bookstore, coffee shop, AND (wait for it…) juice bar features a large, enclosed patio, making you feel nice and cozy as you catch up with friends or browse the book collection. I particularly like the Florida authors section of Tombolo Books, along with the workers’ favorites. You can tell they really love this place as much as their customers do. As for Black Crow Coffee, I highly suggest one of their mochas. Try it with blueberry, peppermint, or even banana. Also, don’t forget to check out the interior, as it’s covered with record cases, plants, and an assortment of antique furniture. I have yet to try out the juice bar, but it can’t hurt to swing in and do a little cleanse. Next time you’re out in Grand Central District during the day, give Black Crow and Tombolo a visit!

CHILL BROS (WATER STREET)

1061 Water St, Tampa, FL 33602

Switching it back to Tampa, this ice cream shop is pretty well known. However, I suggest you try out the relatively new Water Street location. Park in the Greenwise Publix garage or take the TECO Streetcar and take a stroll down Water Street for arguably the best Tampa-based ice cream. The reason I suggest this particular location is not only for the adorable retro swimming pool theme of the storefront but for the ability to carry your ice cream outside to one of the conversation beans. Something about chatting with friends as a nighttime breeze passes through the massive buildings around you just fills you with peace among the hustle and bustle of the neighboring nightlife.

ORONZO

1120 Gramercy Ln D-200, Tampa, FL 33607

This is another chain, but again, “location, location, location” is what makes this place a hidden gem. Oronzo, located in Midtown Tampa, features create-your-own pasta and pizza for takeout or dine-in. The ingredients are fresh and flavorful, and you can watch as the chef makes it right behind the counter. My main point, though, is that on Wednesdays, it’s BOGO pasta. Two whole pasta entrees for $10! Not even Olive Garden can do that. You can also order from the Midtown Commons if you’re busy participating in one of the weekly trivia or music bingo nights. Check out their site for all the recurring and special events this month! https://midtowntampa.com/midtown-events/

CACTUS MOON

4206 N Nebraska Ave, Tampa, FL 33603

I have not checked out this one yet, BUT I have heard great things! In the Seminole Heights area of Tampa lies an eclectic plant shop for the green thumbs of Tampa Bay. You can also place florist orders or participate in one of their many events. One in particular is the Cactus Moon Market, taking place on the property on the second Saturday of every month from 4-8 PM. This market features food, art, local artisans, and, of course, plants. If you’re still on the hunt for some spooky spirit, check out the Cactus Moon Halloween Market this Saturday, October 28th, from 5-9 PM. https://cactusmoonmarket.com/market-info/
