I don’t know about you, but this current retrograde has been particularly ass-kicking. Even for established witches and magick practitioners, retrograde is always a struggle.

For those who might not be familiar with retrograde, it is the phenomenon of a planet appearing to be moving backwards from our perspective here on Earth. Retrograde is most commonly associated with chaos and dread because of the associated planet’s affect on daily life.

For example: Mercury (the planet) rules over communication and transportation. When it is direct, as in not in retrograde, everything works normally, but when it is in retrograde- sh*t hits the fan. Nothing goes according to plan, people fall in and out of your life, and you shatter your phone screen.

This current retrograde (in Mercury, no less) is extra strong because of the other planetary transits occurring at the same time. It will end on November 3rd, so I hope you’re ready for election day ;).

So how do we survive the harsh retrogrades? Here’s my go-tos and tips for staying sane when it feels like the world is coming down on you.

  • Meditation

    • First and foremost, meditation is important whether it’s retrograde or not. Take time to notice your breath, do a body scan, and sort out the chaotic tornado of thoughts in your head. Communicate with yourself and slow down your reactions. You’ll get through this- I promise.

  • Do not force anything

    • One more time for the people in the back- do not force anything! Mercury in retrograde is not the time for forcing plans, communications or feelings. The easiest and most painless way to get through it, is to roll with the punches and work on resilience. It’ll pay off in the long run.

  • Double check, and then triple check

    • If you absolutely must make important plans during retrograde, know that if something can go wrong- IT WILL. Stay prepared for this by triple checking all details of plans and staying flexible.

  • Remember the redirect

    • Things will go back to normal! The best part of retrograde is that it allows us to release all outdated ways of living and thinking. Retrograde is the bulldozer that tears down the shacolpik so you can build a mansion. When you’re caught in the chaos, ask yourself: “How will this make me a better person on the other side?”

Along with these, retrograde also affects the signs differently, so I also recommend researching how you might be more deeply affected.

Always, good luck and love eternal.
