Going to School in Florida: Expectation vs. Reality

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Tampa chapter.

Being from up north, nothing gives me more pleasure than sending Snapchats to all my friends of me with a palm tree in the background with the temperature up front and center for them all to see. However, going to school in Florida is not all it’s cracked up to be.

1. Expectation: We lay out by the pool everyday

Reality: We lay in bed and watch Netflix

2. Expectation: It’s always nice out

Reality: It literally rains, ALL. THE. TIME

3. Expectation: We go to Disney/Busch Gardens/Orlando every weekend

Reality: It costs way too much

4. Expectation: We go to the beach all the time and when we get home we will be golden brown.

Reality: It is a struggle to actually get to the beach unless you have a car, so we end up coming home just as pale as everyone else.

5. Expectation: Since it is warm all the time, we can dress in cute summer clothes all year round

Reality: It’s too hot to wear anything other than a t-shirt and running shorts.

Aurora O'Brien is a Junior at the University of Tampa majoring in Elementary Education. Born and raised in Boston, MA she came to Tampa to escape the snow and the cold. When she is not writing for HerCampus, you can find her binge watching Netflix, listening to everything and anything that has to do with country music, and dreaming of one day marrying Taylor Kitsch, aka Tim Riggins. A die hard Boston sports fan, she spends her time watching the Red Sox and the Bruins. No matter how far life takes her, she will always love that dirty water, and Boston will always be her home.
